Hi Gents - just a quick post to say that there is now at least one C6Z06 - the only one? - rumbling round the land of hill and heather!
Do I have any other C6Z06 chums up here?

Many thanks to Stratstone Leeds and in particular David Slocombe and his colleague Ian for excellent and friendly service!
The C6Z06 is and awesome and addicitive experience - so addicitive in fact, that i`ve done more than a thousand miles already, and i`ve only had it a week!!biggrin

Anyone with shares in Shell is shortly in for a windfall!

I'm not in Scotland but did buy one from Stratstone Leeds as well. Live in Yorkshire, mine is Black on Black. Any details on yours / photo's would be good. Cheers.

Here`s some photos of the car being picked up at Stratstones last Friday - havn`t got any more just now as I`ve been too busy driving it.

I believe you car might have been in the showroom when I visited Leeds to confirm my order in March? - it certainly looks stunning in black - I was severely tempted! - beautiful!

However, I have had a succession of yellow cars, so I thought I should continue the line.

Must admit that when I first saw the VY in `the flesh` so to speak, there was a sharp intake of breath, and I said to David S - I wonder if my local town is ready for this?
Well it wasn`t! - and the car has to date, bestowed upon me a level of celibrity, only slighty less than that which I would have attained had I won the Big Brother competition!
It has been photographed on a daily basis by one admirer or another, since I returned home. Ah! fame at last!!jester

However, those of a shy and retiring nature, hankering after the Z06 experience might well take heed of the `Velocity Yellow`effect, and perhaps choose one of the less strident colours!

I won`t need to tell you that the car is absolutely stunning, both in form and function - you will be well versed in your own by now!
My only gripe to date is the ridiculously over optimistic speedometer - mine has an over reading error of nearly 9% - judged against data from two different GPS devices - barely legal!

A very fast car such as the Z06 has absolutely no need to have its performance flattered by the indications an over optimistic speedometer, indeed, in this camera infested country it is so important to know precisely what speed a `high profile` vehicle such as the Z06 is doing at any given time.

This inaccuracy for me, renders the HUD nigh useless, and as the calibrations on the speedometer dial are so large as a consequence of having to deliver readings in KPH, I tend very much to drive on the indications of my GPS unit!

I have taken the matter up with the dealership, so we`ll see what, if anything, can be done!rolleyes

I tested my speedo at 100mph and it was 5mph too high, not too bad. Has David told you of the possible imminent closure of the Leeds dealership, not goot news!
Nice pics and VY looks great, I nearly ordered same colour but didn't want the attention, although in black its not short of admirers. What was your previous fleet, how does the Z06 compare?

Welcome to C6 Z06 ownership!
I've done over 8000 miles in mine now and have loved every yard.

I agree, it's annoying that the Euro cars have such highly overreading speedos, but once you factor it in, it's not a prob. (I know my real speed is at least 5mph lower than indicated and more like 10mph at higher speeds)

You could try swapping to the very accurate US speedo, but you will only get readings on the speedo to 200km/h when in Europe as that is how far the dial goes to. Not a major consideration, particularly if you don't visit Europe...

However I like having a speedo that reads to 320mph! wink

My speedo reads 33mph at 30 - 76mph at 70 - 108mph at 100 and so on!

I just feel that the car is so fast, and requires 110% concentration to get the the very best from it.
Having to do mental aritmetic and constantly apply `correction factors` with regards to one`s actual speed, blunts the focus.
The US home market cars all appear to have very accurate speed indication - why do we have to suffer this inaccuracy - smells a bit like bureaucratic meddling to me.

I was very sorry indeed to hear that Leeds was closing!
I considered a number of options when planning the purchase of the car. I actually chose Leeds to deal with, on recommendation of a friend, and, though it was the most expensive, I was happy with the final package.

I found Mr S to be a very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and persuasive advocate of the Z06.
Buying a specialist car of the calibre of the Z06 is a very `personal` business, and has much to do with building relationships with customers, and offering a broad package of support. I got on very well - I was impressed, and, all things considered, I was very pleased to do business there.

I had read reports in EVO mag of Chevrolet`s `European woes`, so no doubt there must be some logic to the the restructuring plan, though it beats me - I mean, closing what must be a really successful Corvette dealership with a view to improving sales, sounds like a really astute business decision - no doubt someone said " Guys! - things have been goin` wrong! - we must try harder and get it really wrong!" idea

I`ve had lots of cars over the years - most memorable were my `heavily modified` +8 Morgan, an insane 300bhp Citroen CXGTI turbo, and of course my present Leon Cupra R which is now running about 400bhp.

I am also really into `two wheels` as well, and have had all manner of bikes in my time - my present ride is a very naughty Yamaha V-Max.

I`ve never had a `supercar`such as the Z06 so to speak - I like to use my cars - they don`t sit in the garage very long, and I can do 35000+ miles a year easily, so running a Porsche on the like at that level of use is not really practical for me.

I like `iconoclastic` cars - I tend to buy a car with the prospect of developing it to my own particular spec, as a hobby interest.
I`ve spent the last 5 years working on the VAG 1.8T - a really fantastic wee engine - my present Leon Cupra R was the first in the UK running an IHI turbo kit.
Starting out at 225 bhp,it now gives nearly 400bhp - 175mph and 30 mpg - it`s been featured in a number of enthusiast magazines.

I wanted to return to the normally aspirated/RWD experience, hence the `vette.
I suppose that it too, is well formed in the `iconoclastic` mould - from very humble beginnings it dares to vie with the supercar greats - and does so very effectively!
It is an awesome ride and GM deserve great credit for an fantastic design effort.

No matter what `enhancements` the C7 may bring, I am confident that there is enough potential in the C6Z06 to keep my credit card and my tool kit `well busy` for the next few years!
Watch this space!wink

Thanks and Hi!
I have followed the magazine acticles about your own car with great interest - it is an awesome beast indeed!! - congratulations!!bow
I look forward to reading further updates.

I will just have to see how I get on the the `Euro speedo` - if it continues to irritate, then I may well try the US spec instruments.

I have a development program for my own car already firmly fixed in my own mind - I really am itching to go,and am struggling to wait an appropriately `respectful time, before I get started on it.

As a small token to progress,I have already bought a `Turkey baster` from Tesco, for the clutch fluid, and 33/34mm sockets with which to check my `axle nuts` - I can hear a `Killer Bee` buzzin in the distance too!smile

I'm also thinking about a Killer Bee and email Tune, waiting to hear a response from Jim Hall. How are you finding the brakes, the fade is quite bad on track use. Thinking of changing pads and fluid, David has advised to date. Cheers Sagman

I havn`t put the car under too much pressure as yet, certainly not to the extent of a trackday.
I have cycled the brakes in order to put some heat into the pads, and bed them in and they seem to perform well enough.
I run a Brembo 6 pot kit ,and 355mm discs on my Leon, which is about the same weight as the `vette, so I will do some comparisons in due course, to judge the relative performance.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Active Handling system may actually put the braking system under duress during trackday conditions where the car is moving about a lot.
Even in `Competitive Driving Mode`, the electronic Traction Control is off but the Active handling is still operating, and it will try to correct the the attitude of the car by selectively applying the brakes,in circumstances where you don`t really want to brake as such.
Couple that with really agressive braking that is a normal feature of track use, and `hey presto` you have a big heat load to try and dissipate.
The standard system seems well enough designed - I just don`t know as yet - I`ll have to look into it some more.

The Killer Bee + remap is deffo the way to go with really good gains to be had - Jim Hall is a valuable ally too - very knowledgable and very helpful
The edit software itself is a valuable tool and well worth having.

I`m about 200 miles from Croft- I`ve never driven it before, but would love to give it a try, once I`ve got a few more miles experience with the car.
Certainly something to look forward to!thumbup
I will be very interested to hear how you go with the Killer B - are you doing a before and after dyno?

You got me going a bit before Fugster owned up, I thought my son had taken mine to Crail while I am away.cop

There's a fair number of vette's in Scotland, Grant the regional Rep of the CCCUK usually organises a meet on the first Sunday of the month through the summer, but since I'm only home once every 5 or 6 weeks I rarely can make it.

I was there to support two friends who had been specially invited up to run their `Dubs - it was good to see that they were faster than the 997 turbo!! cool

By the way - The Zee 06 definitely is the Daddyyikes - well worth saving for!
