Hey, Chaps,

Seeing as it seems to be the case that I can't recover my old user ID on Corvetteforum.com (as "SEARCH" doesn't seem to work anymore, and I can't remember my tag!), I was wondering if anyone here could help me?

My current Vette is Black, it has blacked out windows, and I've just had the wheels painted black too. I've ordered some C5R non-popup headlights, and now I want to tint the lights around the car black too.

I know it's easy to get the rear lenses out (just screws), but what about the others? Does anyone know of any "how-to"'s about how to remove the front side-light\indicators, the rear side lights, the side repeaters and the rear fogs (this is a UK car, supplied by Bauer Millet). I'm planning to undertake the tinting session this weekend, and would like it to be as trouble free as possible!

I'll post pix when it's done, and I'll probably be at the next fairmile meet too (albeit without the lights, I suspect...) smile

Thanks in advance...

Col.

Front indicator leses are held in place by a 10mm and a 8mm bolt plus there is a spring that hooks onto the top of the unit. To access both remove both front wheels then remove the access panels at the bottom front of the wheel arches and you can remove them through there.
The red side lights on the rear clip are accessed by removing the rear wheel arch liners which are again best removed after removing the rear wheels. you can actually access the lights from underneath without doing this but it depends how dexterous you are!
The rear fogs should be accessible by removing the rear lights and then working through the holes.

You have to remove the front sidelights to fit the C5R lights anyway, so you may want to wait until then as when the original headlights are out you can get to the bolts which Nige has mentioned very easily.

When fitting the C5R lights, much of the work is done via the sidelight hole anyway - a real PITA.

Did you get the Spectre lights?? They will paint them for you before they ship if it's not too late.

No - I bought these ones:

From www.procarparts.com - No painting required, as they're in black housing! smile

Doesn't sound like a whole load of fun to fit them, mind - I was hoping that the only difficult bit would have been the removal of the original light units? frown

I've also ordered a Vararam, so I might wait until it's all here, then spend a weekend taking the front end of my car to pieces... frown

Fitting the C5R lights is very simple you just need to get the old lights out, fit the brackets mount the lights and you are done. apart from aligning the lights and also lining up the buckets in the holes that is.....this is the bit that is fiddly and takes time.

If you are taking the lights out then removing the indicators to tint them should be done with the lights out as it is then easy to get to the indicators as C5RagTop said. I would agree that it might also be a good time to fit the Vararam.

Once you've removed the stop/tail lamps you can get an arm in through one opening and peer through the other to access other lamps etc.

Acknowledged, but as these lights are sealed units with a plexiglass cover, they have no exposed wires and as such, the covers don't need painting like the proper C5R ones. smile

Hey, Ed,

they're just standard (Halogen?) bulbs - as I understand it, they use the existing wiring, so the hardest thing about installing them is removing the stock headlights. I'm sure with the cheap HID kit you can buy from e-Bay that it'd be easy to upgrade them, though!

Also, in case you're interested, apparently they're 9lbs lighter than the stock units too, which is all good! smile
