Hi all,

Just after a bit of help, I was just wondering if anyone knew of a place that either already has a right hand drive C6 corvette forsale or is willing to do a conversion for me?

I have seen a number of RHD mustangs around, so surely someone must do something similar for a vette.

Thanks!

OK - I'll start the inevitable replies.

Why do you want a right-hand corvette?

Left hand drive is really no problem - as numerous messages in the past on this forum (do search them!) have pointed out, there are actually some advantages to it...

Apart from having to get out at car-parks, there's very little awakwardness to it.

Here you go, should be nicely run in by the time you've driven it home ! If you Google for RHD conversions you'll find a couple of places in the UK. Best advice is still "Don't do it !" though.

If there were any decent RHD corvettes you'd be behind me in the queue for one!

Until then, just get used to sitting in the passenger seat. It's no big deal really, although it can be a PITA occasionally when you're trying to overtake. IMO those who say it's never a problem either have X-ray vision, drive slower than I do or are in denial.

On balance you're much better off with an LHD vette then no Vette at all! And you're much better off with a Vette then with the so-called competition. Fact is; there just isn't any competition at the price. So get your cheque book out and start shopping....

After I've found and bought my C5 I plan to look into installing a small tv camera and lcd screen that will give me better vision when overtaking on 'B' roads etc. This set-up has already been shown on some prototype cars which have no mirrors. It's just what you're used to, the cars are LHD so that's the way it is.

Or you could take a look at this RHD C5 Coupe which appeared in the Classifieds Section an hour ago...

I saw that car at Gaydon years ago when it first arrived from Australia after the conversion!

And I actually went to look at it last November - it was for sale then by the same chap. I haven't seen it for sale since then though, so I guess he took it off the market to wait for summer.

I was just dubious about RHD - I do more miles on the continent these days than in the UK. I guess it would suit someone who likes Corvettes/American cars but has never 'dipped their toe in the water' because of the fear of LHD.

It was in pretty nice condition TBH. One or two minor things that needed tidying and it would then be very clean indeed. Have you seen that engine bay pic? The battery has been moved to the LH side to make room for the master cylinder. Fuse box has been moved to one side too. Wonder what car they took the steering rack from? All information I'd like to be able to get my hands on in case replacement parts were ever needed.

Another factor to consider is the long-term value of a RHD American car.

An example is the Cadillac Seville, which was created in RHD actually by GM themselves. Nice enough car, 300hp and lovely Northstar engine. But RHD. So you can pick them up for 3 or 4 grand, nice examples from 1998-2001. But... go for an inferior year (e.g. 1993), LHD and people want 6 or 7 grand for them... Reason is you hit the American enthusiast market fair and square with original LHD, but RHD - cause everyone can drive them - get punted by anybody, and ... at least in this example ... seem to be worth less than the LHD equivalent!!

I for one would never entertain a RHD 'vette: LHD absolutely no probs over here, and what a treat as all our compatriots totter off the chunnel/ferry nervous about being all the wrong-side of the road, and you thunder off in your made-for-that-side V8. Always great ;-)

Now theres an idea

I had the rear view camera on the Vert but it was a waste f time

Maybe an overtaking camera woulkd be a better plan. i could display it on the AVIC screen.
