Guys

Had the Vette 13 months now and still loving it more each day, however the wheels

need some attention now.

The chrome is shot, really badly, especially on the inner part of the wheel, so what to do? scratchchin

1) What is the approx cost to have them refurbished staying Chrome.

2) What is the approx cost to have them refurbished but done in say black.

3) What is the approx cost to have a new set.

Not had a chance to look about as yet, but anyone been down this road?

Thank in advance. yes

When I owned the car, I explored the various options you raise, and found that re-chroming of base alloys is essentially on a cost basis a no-no, as also attempting surface chrome stripping and then either re-polishing or painting.

There was the issue of actually finding someone to do either jobs and the costs relative to the price of new wheels.

If it is of interest, I have in A1 condition the original cast mag-alloy wheels, nuts and centre pods that I intended keeping as spares for my current Z06, but would be prepared to sell.

I agree. I shot off several e-mails to wheel companies about stripping my Mustang chrome wheels and no-one bothered to reply. Apparently it's a noxious process that contravenes health and safety. Better off importing a new set. I sent mine back for warranty but I was just interested in doing it to save doing that.

Z06 wheels are very light and a worthwhile fitting although they don't look much in the style department.

I had aftermarket chrome ZR1 rims on the C4 and after a couple of UK winters most of the chrome fell off!

I ended up getting the wheels shotblasted and then powder-coated black and on a black car they look cool

Thanks for the replies guys, Nigel - what sort of cost and where did you get this done?

You're usually talking £45 to £70 to have any wheel blasted and powder coated. Best to add a post in one of the other sections asking for recommedations/prices in your area.
