Just looking around the ads (yes everyday hehe)...and I've seen my fav shape Vette (C5) going for fairly cheap prices 12-15k.
Would you say this is a silly idea to buy at that price ?

The price isn't silly at all, just make sure that you check the condition of the car, it might be a complete bargain. I remember spotting a Jag for sale 25 years ago but my brother didn't want to view it because it seemed too cheap. After much persuasion he looked at the car and bought it on the spot. The price was about 60% of what similar cars were going for but the condition was far better.

Is the handling as bad as 'pub talk' makes out to be or is it just bs people talk ?

Depends what you are used to, it won't handle as well as a Scooby, Evo, Lotus Exige, et. al, but it will be a lot better than 90% of cars. Pretty much all C5's have traction control, abs, active ride etc. fitted as standard and in the dry it would be almost impossible to one unless you are being very optimistic about the sort of speed you can carry through a corner. The brakes are pretty good, the cars weigh about 1400kgs and it will out perform all but the best supercars in just about any conditions.

The only things I don't like are the steering is too lightly weighted and needs too many turns to do what I want and the standard suspension is too soft. (I changed my composite leaf springs for coil overs and stiffer sway bars to fix this particular problem.) Cost about £1500 to do and transforms the handling.

Overall I would defy you to find a better practical daily driver car with the same levels of performance for the money.

Also just spotted you are going on the Furball, did the Alpine one last year it was brilliant, doing the Viking one this year.....can't wait

(just seen your profile...)

Well actually you gave me a lift in a bright orange Diablo

1500 sounds like a fair price to make the handling better.
Well I have no firm idea of what Im after as of yet but just trying to look at as many cars as possible.

Ah! The one that was waiting at the top of the wrong mountain for the convoy of cars due to my navigation incompetence.......fancy putting two passes so close together (about 30 miles apart) with similar sounding names smile

Still we had a little break and finally caught up with the others smile

When I come back to the UK I am going to have a look at various cars, if I can stretch whatever money I have, the C5 is definately a high consideration.

Well its been 18 months since I have driven so I just want something at the moment !
