HVAC illumination problem - C5

Last week I saw the green LED illumination in my HVAC display had gone very dim. With no obvious fix I did a search of CorvetteForum and found it's a known problem for C5. The fix involves dismantling the HVAC control unit and re-soldering a group of tiny components. Cutting a long story short I bit the bullet, worked through the fix and now the green HVAC display is back to the same brightness as the clock/radio.

The burn on my thumb stands as testament to my soldering skills!

My HVAC power supply board (1999) was the same as the image posted by EnglandGreen. It seems there was a design change but both layouts suffered the same inadequate soldering when manufactured. Thanks to CorvetteForum and the power of the internet for this fix.

Sounds like it's a very common problem then. Happily my DIY fix seems a good 'un!
