Must be some kind of record; my car has been featured three times in less than six months and twice on the front cover!

This time they invited me up to Cadwell Park so that they could compare my car against 15 of their road and track favourites.

Didn't finish that high in the subjective overall rankings, (I think it scared them too much: "too fast for everywhere" is one of the quotes! ) but did manage the 5th fastest lap time beating, amongst others, an Exige S around the tightest, twistiest circuit in the UK.

All the 4 cars that lapped faster (Ariel Atom s/c, Caterham R400, Porsche GT3 RS, Aston Martin V8 N24) were on special track rubber, whereas mine is still on the stock Goodyear runflats.

Anyway, worth a read and wait until I get my Penske triple-adjustable coilovers, adjustable anti-roll bar, Brembos and race wheels/tyres on it...

You can read my own first two write-ups on www.auto-journals.com/content/j_corvette.html

Ditto re: mags and loo.

Shocking performance David. I agree with your surprise though - you'd think they'd want to feature the stock Z06 that people can walk into Stratstone and buy!

Well I was going to reply "but that would have finished even further down the ranking" but on further reflection, that might not be true.

I think they reckon, on their brief experience, that the car is on the verge of being too powerful for its chassis now.
I, of course, am used to it, so actually crave more power!

However, I concede that there are further mods that can be made to tame the power and bring the chassis into the 21st century (by ditching the leaf springs for instance! <stir mode on> ).

But the real problem I can foresee is: what if my upgraded suspension mods control the power too effectively and make the car boringly safe again? Will I need to mod the engine further to bring back the adrenaline?! spin confused rofl

"There's no such thing as too much power"

However there may be too much power for a given circuit; & having just watched some in-car footage of a mates escapades racing a 100bhp Locost round Cadwell it must be pretty scary in a 600bhp Vette!

You are right. Other than maybe Brands Indy, I cannot think of a less suitable track in the UK to show my Z06's true potential. It is the opposite of a "power circuit"!

I'm going to get "too fast for everywhere: evo magazine" made up as a rear bumper sticker!

Not an uncommon observation! With Vettes the engine is often the best bit of the car. IMO the LS series motors are simply astounding.

Yet they don't really seem to like writing about it. How many column inches this time mate, 3? 4 inches?

At least they have written about/reviewed the Z06. I don't recall 'The Original Car Weekly' ever having properly reviewed it, only a 'First Drive' article early in 2006.

LOL excellent. Would love to see how it gets round Bedford GT or Silverstone GP now: Caterfields byebye!

I've oft thought of trading the NSX for a C5, something quite different but strangely appealing. Rare, bombproof mechanicals, fast.

Hi Len, that is a really good point. How can the UK's only serious weekly car mag not have tested a Z06? James? Care to enlighten us?

There was a four page Autocar test drive back in August 2005 on the Z06 by Howard Walker. We had re-prints at the dealership, but all have since gone.

The last paragraph read -
"But What's so impressive about the the Z06 is that before its arrival, you had to be filthy rich to be able to afford the kind of cars - Porsche, Ferraris, Lamborghini - that could deliver this kind of staggering performance and race-bred handling.
Now you can get one for under 60 grand"

I have no idea why they have never carried out a full test drive with ratings. To my knowledge they used the press silver Z06 on at least two occasions for articles, one being a trip to Le Mans.

James, to be superseded by the following in the 'First Drive' article:

"Let’s be clear: this is a storming amount of poke for £60k, and on the right road – on this limited evidence a smooth, fairly straight one – a vivid and engrossing experience. But not one, perhaps, to seriously challenge Europe and Japan’s best."

Time for an update (given the 'limited' nature of the review)? (The GT3RS has been reviewed more times in the last 2 weeks).

That's the article that switched me onto the car in the first place and got me to put my order in within the month.

IMO it's great that C5/C6 have been good enough to get people out of other brands and into America's best sports car! The magazines still love to say "they're OK but not as good as Europe's finest" while conveniently forgetting to mention they only cost 2/3rds the money. I don't know any car from Europe which can touch the all-round performance of the latest Vettes at the price. LHD is a big sticking point for many potential buyers.

I can't believe the big money that's being spent on Aston V8s at the moment. A nice car if that's your thing but too heavy, too expensive and too slow for my taste.

Well here's a radical thought. Why don't you come up with some riveting topics rather than "Zzzz-ing" @ ones that don't interest you personally?

Well as the only topics on this forum these days is Z06 this and Z06 that or dealer this and dealer that I really have nothing to say and if I did it would be completely pointless because of course all the interesting and funny posters are all but gone.

HERE'S AN EVEN MORE RADICAL THOUGHT, MAYBE THIS FORUM IS DEAD BECAUSE THE CONSTANT THEME OF TOPICS DIDN'T INTEREST HARDLY ANYONE ON HERE PERSONALLY AND DESPITE TRYING IN VAIN TO KEEP IT GOING AS IT WAS, THEY JUST GAVE UP. As your own title to this thread says .....Z06....AGAIN

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
