After many phone calls and e-mails, my insurer Admiral have finally authorised Steve at the Stratstone PDI Centre to carry out some bodywork repairs (resulting from a slight lapse in concentration).

The first stumbling block was that their 'approved' repairer for the vehicle was a Chevrolet approved repair centre in Tunbridge Wells.

Why on earth was I objecting to using the local Chevrolet (Daewoo) dealer for a repair on my Chevrolet Corvette??

So then they wanted a second estimate - unfortunately I couldn't provide them with another repair place other than Stratstone - at least one that could provide a valid estimate and source the parts

They've finally sent out an assessor and had him OK the repair.

The downside is this has taken a week and a half and I'm pretty certain there's no way I'll have the car for the FIA GTs at Silverstone this weekend.

The upside is that now I know Admiral are spectacularly bad at dealing with a claim and can't understand that a Corvette and a Chevrolet might be two different things!

Time for a new insurer on renewal!

They must be in league with Autotrader who list our cars under two different manufacturer names, which is precise but unusual!

"Corvette" covers C6 but for C5 or earlier you have to look under "Chevrolet".

5 USA it the nail on the head.
When Stratstone and GM starting selling Corvettes they droped the chevy name because GM had differnt plans for that name replacing Daewoo as a budget brand in europe.
When Vauxhall dealers sold Corvettes they were sold as Chevrolets along with the Blazer and Camaro and Cadillac was another make of car again, When GM stop selling the cars in 2001 the GM Chevrolet died, When Kroymans in europe took over they rebranded the C6 as a stand alone model a bit like BMW have done with Mini the old model was a Rover group car but when BMW brought the new model out it became its own make.
Kroymans did this with C6 Corvette as the topping on the cake to go with selling Cadillac again across Europe.
Chevrolet is now Chevrolet Europe and is nothing to do with GM Chevrolet models in the USA we will be getting some global Chevys it the coming years. But I think selling Corvette as a stand alone car is better for the brand and the car.
Too much info??? blah

Sorry to hear about your problems with this but feel that I must speak up as I have just had an excellent experience with Admiral when my son wrote his car off. They settled swiftly and without complaint to the full insured value.

I appreciate that this isn't the same thing but I was really impressed with them as against the insurers of my Chevrolet Silverado who, some two years on have now, have reluctantly changed the model of my truck on the policy document from a Camaro to a Silverado. When challenged that they had it wrong they explained that the only Chevrolet model in the drop down box on their computer that ended in an "O" was Camaro and it was OK because they knew that it was a truck so not to worry. Despite several letters and one back from them saying that it was OK I finally managed to get them to change it by threatening them with the police. My concern was not so much that they might not pay a claim but that I would have a devil of a job with the rozzers if I had to produce documents...
