I've been drawn towards buying a C6 Coupe (i seem to be going through a american phase), anything I should look for in particular or are these cars pretty sound.

The car i'm looking at is a manual C6 on 05 plate for around 35k.

Any advice welcome?

Is it one of my 05/05 manuals? If so email me your details and I can get someone out to you for a test drive.

Thanks James,

When I'm ready for a test drive I'll be in touch, but i was hoping for now just some independant advice from existing owners on what's good and what's bad.

The only advice buy a UK spec car a stay away from the Imports!
The only thing with an 05 MY manual is that you had to leave the car in R when you parked up like a Saab, something to do with theft in the states from 06 onwards you can leave them in netural, But are you ever going to be parked up! You will love it,

Why! The imports are working out to be the same money as a UK car and the UK cars all come with Radio & sat nav that works in th UK. The HID headlamps are all set up correct as some imports have had to have them removed when they were SVA'd. The UK cars come with Thatcham alarms and mist have trackers already fitted also deadlocks are on euro cars on manual euro cars no 1st to 4th skip on the gearbox only US cars have to have it. All UK cars come standard with Z51 option worth around $1500, their are also lotrs of other changes for euro cars the biggest thing is a 3 year GM warranty! the roof recall that most 05MY cars have was done under warranty any Import car would have to have any recall work done out of their own pocket. Unlike the C5 their seems to be more changes between the US and Euro car. At the end of the day its up to you where you buy from but I would not like to spend my hard earned cash on car that I can buy as an offical Import for similar money.

of course you could always buy a used C5 Z06 and start modding it - first batch of modz are UPS'ing their way to me as we speak - sod's law they don't arrive in time for the bank holiday time off!

As my import needed (needs) the roof recall doing, it apparently gets done out of a global warranty, but i can see your point re the radio's etc..

So a UK car it is, what about manual or auto difference? I would be happy be the manual however my wife who will also use the car would prefer the auto. Is picking a auto a bad move or just down to driving preferences?

Thanks for the advice.

Early C6 autos (4 speed) are fine but the later 6-speed paddle-shift autos are absolutely blinding!
Try before you buy....

You can buy a low mileage <5k fully loaded 06 coupe for $42/44k to which you can add another $15k +/- for shipping and HM customs etc, to which you will also have to pay for SVA.
I have just been offered an 07 paddle shift model, Z51 etc for $48k.
Significant savings can be made but only if you import yourself.
American Dreams I note have currently a 10k miles 05 coupe in silver for £29k.
Because of the differentials in depreciation of cars in the USvUK, there is less attraction in direct importing of 05 age cars (other than the wide choice)

Hi there

What exactly does the Z51 package get you on the new C6 vettes?

Also do they all feature the active handling system or is this an option?

What are the top 3 easy to do modifications for extra power?

dont agree with the no import thing.....mine has been totally reliable....the sat nav n all works perfect right thru ireland and uk, 1-4 gear change is handy but reli very easy to bypass, mine has the z51 pack and the dealer warrenty i got covered a couple of minor things i had! these cars will run and run, theres a guy on the vet forums who has 130k totally hasstle free.
in response to you gibbo the z51 gives better cross drilled brakes, sports suspension, additional oil coolers, slightly shorter gear ratios and a couple other things i cant remember. all cars come with 3 stage traction....competeitive driving mode i find the best.
the z06 is grabbing the headlines at the mo but people forget the performance of the base car is huge....1/4 mile in 12.6 at 114.9, 0-60 in 3.9 (car and driver)...very little will touch it and handling is fantastic....and im coming from a gt3!!!

The nice thing with the gm stuff too is that the ecm is tunable so turning off the CAGS 1-4 shift is a 5min job. With something like efilive etc.
