My offside headlamp bulb blew last December. No problem to replace once I'd done the boring job of winding the headlamp unit up by hand. Less than 10 minutes from start to finish.

My nearside headlamp bulb blew last night. It was a pig to replace as the terminal block had a vice-like grip on the bulb's terminals. Luckily I remembered the problem happened before on the same connector 4 years ago. Had to remove the body-coloured cap from the top the headlamp - not just the black fairing around it - in order to get a screwdriver in there to prize off the connector. Had to wind the headlamp up and down a couple of times to get at all the screws 'cos you don't realise what's holding it all together when the hedlamp is up. It required a flat screwdriver, a Philips screwdriver, a Torx driver and a few squirts of penetrating oil and half an hour to sort it instead of just a few fingers. Once off it was as easy as normal to replace the bulb but disassembly, change and reassembly took about half an hour including head scratching and hand washing time.

Didn't swear once though ! angel

Such a nice young man......

Actually, on the subject of headlights, does anyone know what the large block (about 3 inches square) located at the bottom of the passenger headlight assembly is for?? It has a 5 pin and a 4 pin connector going into it. Disconnected it when fitting my C5R lights as it is no longer required according to the instructions - just curious.

This is the head light control module or guide unit as it is called that controls the head light lift motors.

You could have just swichted head lamps on & gone back to side lights ! Saves all that winding
as lamps then stay up ! Just a tip for next time !

Thanks Ian - that explains why I don't need it connected any more.

Thanks, I'm nervous about mucking around with live electrics especially as yesterday I had "help" from a colleague at work as I was doing the swap during my lunch hour. My helper was completely mystified by the appearance of an H4 headlamp bulb and thought I was throwing away the complete headlamp unit ! The helper also suggested I take the glass lens from the front and remove the bulb from that direction !

Haven't fitted a "go faster" 24v alternator have you?

No, both were aftermarket bulbs fitted at the same time so I'm not surprised that their life expectancy was similar.

Hmm, 24V electrics, now there's an idea...
