Getting Parts from the US

Completely new to American Cars (I know a TJ isn't a Corvette) but has anyone found a cheap way of getting parts from US. Costs for shipment and duty seem crippling compared to cost of the item. Am I missing some vital trick? Alternatively is there a distributor in Europe that offers good pricing?
