hi chaps

Anyone had this type of issue before,

Story is went for MOT found sidelight not working removed bulb holder found it to be bodged by dealer in Bristol (again) found dodgy crimp on spade terminals with insulation tape.

BUT as i removed this bodge up the wires touched and shorted the sidelights out, i fixed the bulb holder and wiring properly and checked the manual found sidelights are fuse 6 replaced fuse.

still not working !

Now have headlights stuck up position and still no sidelights

Headlights do work tho

Any ideas anyone i need rear lights to goto work tonight

thanks

Side light fuse is in the fuse box in the footwell of the passenger side (remove carpet and then remove kick panel to reveal the fuse box) The circuit is something like PKLMP or something like that I think from memory it is fuse number 8 or possibly 6.

Had the same problem when I fitted my Euros. Shorted out a fuse and it was #6 in the passenger footwell box.

Sorry to chuck this in, but "disconnect the battery before working on any part of the electrical system" are indeed wise words.

Yes in hindsight that would have been good but when the cars in the MOT station lights on tester waiting I pulled out the dead sidelight in the hope of fixing it immediately I hoped not to have to return for this simple fault (a new bulb?) only to discover an amateur of the lowest caliber had been at my cars wiring.

But it was too late as the wires touched (insulation tape does not seem to age well exposed to the elements under there) wrapped round ill fitting crimps held in by good luck and insulation tape, and as I surveyed the horror the side lights went out.

I know removing the battery would have best but in the testing station this would not have been welcome in the circumstances.

Once again the legacy of the morons at the Bristol main dealer and previous owner of my car had come to get me.

I thought I had overcome all the bodge ups but it just goes to show, be care full who you buy your cars from.

Hi all

yes its fixed ok now, and talking about the European headlights my vette was imported from Germany and once again those morons in Bristol were happy to issue me with an MOT with the headlights pointing the wrong way i did manage to get them to replace the HD lights tho as i claimed it was un mot able like that, and they gave up on that one and did the work (but not before crashing my vette into a post of something and then to add insult to injury tried to fix it with a can of wrong colour spray paint and a bit of glass fiber over the mess.

Well you can imagine the comments they got from me, but they got me anyway in the end as the clutch failed and went to the floor (but only when you were miles from this main dealer) every time i went back in to complain they just claimed it was ok nothing wrong with it.

even when i bought another vette and took them both in and demonstrated the difference in the clutch noise (the thrust bearing had failed too as the hydraulic fluid had flushed out the grease i think ) they just lied and said it was not conclusive and would not fix it.

And then there was the paint flaking and falling off and the re spray I got them to do, and the lights brakes exhaust etc etc

Some things i have fixed myself like the clutch and flywheel and hydraulics etc but in the end it was safer for the car to be worked on by someone else not those cretins in Bristol.

However now its all fixed its a fine car, but i have learned not to trust the dribbling idiots at the main dealers morons of the lowest kind, in fact criminals but unfortunately the burden of proving their guilt and the cash for doing so is too risky for members of the public to do when there is a chance you could fix it yourself for less and get lower blood pressure from doing it.

Sad but that’s the way things are in the UK, justice only for the rich

Not that im still upset or anything you understand

cheers

Good cars shame about the aftermarket service, glad they got dropped by GM in the end

Sounds like that dealer should be nuked ! I hope you have found someone better able to look after your pride and joy !
If not you can get a full set of shop manuals from the US....
Funny what you said about the MOT, My car had passed 3 MOTs when I bought it, in spite of having the wrong beam aim. My pal spotted it straight away, and looking into the beam scope, its miles off. We got it through ok with some deftly placed black tape ! I have now fitted the correct GM units, not too bad at 100 quid a pop I guess.
