Anyone considered a retro fit of GM's sat nav.
Its obviously possible if you can get the unit and gps dongle, as well as the codes, but is it both practical and economical???

I think there may be better options at a lower price.

I have the Pioneer AVIC X1R and its a good performer for a reasonable price. It has the pop up screen so it fits in the 1.5 DIN space. Only snag is it covers the AC vent when its out. There's a D1 double DIN size with a full screen in the US (Z1 now?). Not sure what the Euro designation is. For that you need a double DIN mod to the console. C5 Kidd on the Corvette Forum does the mod.

There are appearing on e-bay at reasonable frequency, the C6 units selling for 700/800 US.
I have to admit that I find the screen on my C6 intrusive on occasions.

Dont forget that US radios are quite a bit different to UK spec. The frequency spacing is 0.2 Mhz (odds) against 0.1 here. All the traffic systems are different. With DVD capable units, the US models are set to region 1. With the AVIC, the US navigation software doesn't work here which is why I had to swap out my N1 for an X1R.

All in, you'd be better getting a UK spec model. Not sure what the going rate is for the Euro standard C6 system but ££££ I would guess.

Your comments regarding US sourced sat nav is partly correct in that the frequency selectors are in jumps of 200 rather than the UK 50 mhz, but the sat nav works perfectly provided you have the Europe disc.(My C6 with sat nav is US sourced)

No not that - has trouble keeping sat lock. You need one of B Liars road pricing trackers

You may as well get it now as we will all have to have it when road pricing comes in
