my z06's odometer just passed 500 miles, as per my old habit I'd like to change the oil & filter, can I do it myself or it's going to effect the warranty in the UK?

If its an offical car I think it needs to be done by Stratstone I don't think just an il change will be much,

Thank you. I'll contact Park Lane to arrange it then.

I thought that after the block exemption rules were changed warranties had to be honoured provided officially approved parts were used?

I think because Stratstone are the only UK network thay underwrite the warranty if you get a car from Europe you can go to any VAT reg'd garage.

Hmm, so you wouldn't be covered if you did the work yourself even using GM parts?

Correct - you have to go to a VAT registered garage. I have this in writing from Corvette Europe when I was protecting the warranty on my C5.

If anyone is doing this with a warranted car then I would suggest that you get the invoice to specify exactly what oil and filter part number were used which would avoid any issues later if you made a warranty claim.

I'm not sure on that. Stratstone are the sole GM agent for Corvette in the UK so its down to them regarding Warranty issues on cars For the sake of an oil change you might as well get it done with them.

I was calling Stratstone today and I was told that they will arrange their parts department to send me and oil filter and they have no problem with me changing the oil.

I assume that they have agreed this with you as a gesture of goodwil as you bought the car from them - in which case full marks to them. Are they saying that all C6 owners with warranty can do the same??

I didn't ask that question. I hope ParkLane is reading this thread and will reply in due course.

Well the point is slightly moot in this case as a 500 mile oil change is not in the servicing schedule anyway, i.e. there is no need for Stratstone or anyone else to know that it was done!

I think Stratstone's attitude is superb, keep it up! thumbup

What is the scheduled 1st oil change, the handbook/maintenance book make no recomended time/mileage?
Is it therefore at a time determined by the mileage/computer.
Are we being too obsessive about this first oil change?

Sorry for the delayed reply; I've been away in the Lake District enjoying the scenerey and the roads driving I have not spoken to our service department but I expect that because it is not a scheduled service the warranty will not be affected.

I believe that Vette Guru is correct about the Vat registered part for warranty etc. but I will check this out with the head of Corvette Aftersales (UK), who is employed by GM.
