Battery conditioner for the C6 Z06?
Discussion
Does anyone know the amp-hour capacity of the Z06 battery?
I ask because a lot of people seem to recommend the Optimate 3 battery optimiser as seen here: www.thegreenreaper.co.uk/ShowDetails.asp?id=973
But it is only designed for motorcycle batteries up to 32Ah.
What do people on here use? I want it to just plug into the 12v socket in the centre console and maintain the battery.

We use optimates at the dealership. You can hard wire a connector to the battery, leaving a 12 volt plug under the bonnet that you can hook the optimate up to pretty quickly.
They will not recharge a flat battery, but if left on overnight to a car that hasn't been started for 2 weeks the car is fully charged again in the morning.

The AccuMate is designed for cars (up to 75Ah).
Yeah I noticed that, but it is not the latest "desulphating" type although I don't know how important that is.
Do you use one Len?
Also Parklane, what is the advantage of fitting a permanent lead, wouldn't the cigarette lighter socket work just as well? Or is it so you can close all the windows and put the alarm on?
Since I dont molly-coddle any of my cars in garages, I use a solar panel trickle charger, light is free.
It works fine with my 8 series BMW's, and they have 2 batteries per car, and are notorious for their stationary drain.
There are also available some recent Sweedish derived intelligent chargers always available at Classic car shows etc, I will check it out at Shepton Mallet this next week-end.

i've got x3 Optimates they all work great (been using them for around 8 years) leaving them plugged in for months at a time with no problems, though i dont have a vette
So even though they're only rated up to 32Ah, they keep your car batteries topped up OK?
I presume they don't recharge them if they're flat though, which the Accumate will. Having said that I have a basic charger anyway, but it would be nice to have one that can do both jobs and be the best for maintaining the battery long term.

yes no problem, I cant imagine a vette battery been much bigger than the viper one. I plug the optimate in after every trip, and are still using the OE battery after 6 years. The longest period i've left in plugged in is 3 months and the car started on the first click.
Most of the viper owners youll find use the Optimate too, it will charge a flat battery but it will take a couple of days. Mines connected via the pernament lead, never tried the ciger lighter attachment

Viper battery is phyiscally bigger and also a p.i.t.a. to replace given it means removing one of the rear wheels and then the inner wheel arch, compared with losing the skin off of your fingers trying to get a vette battery out of a hole only slightly bigger than the battery whilst fighting gravity.
The Viper never seems to lose it's charge. The vette however is on trickle some of the time but not constantly.
Hey Godzilla, how are you? I have been using Optimates for some time and they are very good. They will recharge a discharged battery, but as mentioned, it does take a while. It can only dump just over an amp iirc.
The idea is just leave it on while you arent using the vehicle, and this will stop sulphation happening in the first place. Just check that your lighter socket remains powered up when the key is off, some do unpower the skt. This was a directive from the evil empire to stop little johnny shoving a red hot element into his sisters cheek while Mum is in the shops ! Not sure if the US have cottoned on recently, but the C5 skt is live with the key out of the ign. If no, Just wire up the socket in the box, and hide it somewhere accessible. Its just a Tamiya type plug, as used on RC models. I could possible source these units via a pal, if theres enough interest.
