I seem to be using a lot of oil in the C5.
Is it normal?

Well, when I say a lot. It might not be a lot compared to some cars but it's some.
I dunno... about a litre a month maybe?

Just wondering if you guys are experiencing similar?

There is a history of some C5's with a higher than average oil consumption, think it was a piston rings issue but not terminal, just uses a lot of oil!

Cheers.

I'm not getting lots of smoke, or big black patches on the pavement.
I'll just keep an eye on it.

The ring issue was mainly confined to the 2001 385hp Z06's, many of which were re-ringed under warranty but I've seen some people complaining about excess oil consumption on the LS1. Some believe (no, this isn't a Stig intro) that the PCV actually sucks oil out so fitting some sort of limiter to the line can stop it. If you're using Mobil 1, bear in mind that the US viscosity is different to here (5w not 0w) so a change to a thicker oil may help. I used to use the Rally formula Mobil 1 which is 15w/40. Most US cars now use a 5w/20 or 30.

Later cars had a better valley base plate & with pcv mods helped cure the problem. Some early ring packs were lacking in tension. I have 2 baseplates here if you need one.

Boosted.
