No rocking horse ****
Discussion
I’m on a quest to find some rocking horse S*** as it was described a while back. The vette has failed its MOT for bald rear tires and as you all know the stock ones are nearly impossible to come by. I know where I can get one and that there are two more at micheldever but they are reserved for someone. So my plea is if there is anyone out there hording one that doesn’t really need it or if you have the two at micheldever reserved for you would you be willing to let me have one.

Yep they have the one I know about. I thought I had two for a while but it turned out the dealer I was talking to had found the same one at NHT. I wish I had grabbed two when you posted a while back but I hadn’t realise they were so bad. There is just a thin strip around the centre which is at 1.6mm according to the tester everywhere else where I had measures has plenty aghh

Sounds like the tyres are over inflated if that is happening. I know NHT do the Kumho tyres as I have them on my Z06 and I know Kumho now do their Ecsta range in the right size (I just checked)

Call James on 01252 318666 as he can get you the Kumhos for Monday. Model KU31 99 W = £110 +VAT each. NHT also have the Goodyear F1 none runflats in stock and the have Falkens that will fit the back of the C5.

Thanks Nigel
Don’t seem to be able to get the runflat kumho in the UK and don’t really want to mix run flat fronts and conventional rears.
Merytire have the Goodyear’s on back order as well, and who was the cheeky bugger who phoned them before me this morning….
I think I have a cunning plan though and should have a pair soon. I hope this all works out.
thanks to everyone who contributed

Have you considered Bridgestones?
They seem to be much easier to get hold of.

My favourite tyre chap says he can get the OEM fit goodyears, but suggested the bridgestone re 050 runflat as an alternative. Same size, a bit cheaper and he reckons they are newer and more advanced
design than the GY product. Give a slightly more compliant ride and less noise. I need a full set very soon so might give them a try.
I have good news and good news.
I recently or should I say Team Tekwiz converted to non runflats and the reasons and outcome is as follows.
I had a nearly illegal front Goodyear EMT runflat and the other was nearing its life expectancy, After a lot of deliberation and discussions and telphone calls internet searching I like you found that run flats were on back order however a set was found by one of the suppliers you mentioned and I could have them for £160 front and £350 rear less 10% (CCCUK discount) plus 17.5% VAT EACH .
Now what about other runflats, again good ole internet, this came up with Bridgestone as the only other runflats that were readily available in the correct size and speed rating, after checking the pros and cons of Bridgestones (check BMW forums) I decided that they were no better than Good Year so now my options were the dreaded Normal tyres. This gave me a much wider range in both price and quality, the one major concern I had was what if I get a puncture, this was covered when I found that Continental have manufactured a compressor and inflator that injects a latex into your flat tyre and according to them will not damage your tyre sensors so now the hunt was on, to cut a long story short I chose the michelin sport sp2. These were supplied and fitted balanced and tracked for less than £800 (set of 4) for piece of mind I have the continental inflator kit.
The ride has been transformed in both the dry and the wet, do not know about the tyre noise as our exhaust sytem is rather loud anyway, the handling is much more important as well as the price. I find they are much more sure footed and corner like the car is on rails, no more hard bumps or judders and wet weather driving is much safer.
Anyway more good news I threw the fronts but I have a pair of rears that are legal and in good condition and have a good few thousand miles left in them. PM me for more info.
