In a thread in General Gassing I had a few requests for some more info on my Stingray racer. It’s a replica of the Peter Brock-designed prototype for the 63’-onwards Corvettes, a car which raced for only two seasons before retiring to the show circuit.

My car was built for me at Corvette Kingdom in Norfolk over a couple of years – the starting point for the body was the rather sorry example below:

It isn’t intended to be an exact copy, but instead a fun to drive road car, so some modernisation has been done, eg rack-and-pinion steering and disc brakes. I haven’t had the 0-60 time measured as the carb needs some final tuning now the engine has bedded in, but with 430hp and 410ft/lbs in a lightweight car it should be pretty good.

You should take it to Le Mans this year and do the Parade du Pilotes as well as try to blag a track lap in that! I am sure GM would like to display it at the corporate hospitality area........

Thanks for the idea - been meaning to go to Le Mans for a while - I'll certainly look into it.

Saw this at the Classic Show on the Sporting Bears stand last year. Had £100 in my pocket to get a ride but alas it was just sitting there keeping in the warm.

Nothing else took my fancy so kept the cash and added it to the bill for the engine rebuild! Swings and roundabouts.

Well here's a couple that got taken at Silverstone during the GT race meet when I got to drive the car. Frightened, yes, careful, yes, held back when accelerating....NO.
