Hello - my name is Bob - and I'm a vette convert
Recently purchase a Corvette C5 Z06 £25k
405bhp - 0-60 4 secs - top speed 180mph
I can drive it every day. It has all mod cons. It kicks Ferrari's, Lambo's into touch and it's a Corvette - it's a no brainer !!!
Why would you buy anything else
I thought about a Caterham - but why would you spend £30k + on a R400 Caterham - there day is well and truly over.
Overpriced, under spec'd and too dam heavy
It's about time UK punters woke up - forgive me for the years of sin

Corvettes are FUN !!! I purchased my first in 1978; it was a well worn 1975 model - but it didn't matter. First purchased Corvettes are always special to their owner !
Here's my families and mine Corvette history:

Welcome to the enthusiasm called "Corvette".

Really enjoyed that Mike - thanks for sharing.
Any plans to update the timeline with a C6 ZO6?
Welcome Woof,
Better late than never I say - it took me 7 years from when I walked into a showroom
to buy a C5 to when it was actually parked on the drive!
Hi Bob - well done. You do know that you can't get patches or help to give up this habit though!!
It's a vicious cycle, I'm afraid. First you get your Corvette, and then you're onto harder things: mods, chips, exhausts. Meets. Polishing. And your ears suffer - 5.7l of V8 being revved (you know you can just rev the arse of them?? please, try to break them.).
And then you'll need a second fix. Perhaps it will be a bigger, faster 'vette (maybe a C6 Z06), maybe you'll hanker after a coke-bottled C3.
So, the outlook is bleak, I'm afraid - no cure for the Corvette bug. Some antidotes from Germany or Italy may temporarily cure it, but you'll yearn always for your big, unbreakable lump.

vetguru - wouldn't worry about people knowing what a good deal the 'vette is, they usually don't believe it!
When you try and tell people that the Corvette:
- is excellent value-for-money for the performance
- is a simple, bulletproof engine
- can be serviced at home
- can have quick, cheap parts quickly
- actually handles pretty well
- not as thirsty as you'd expect
- very little depreciation (which is always a much higher cost than petrol)
- costs very little to insure
- can be a manual - 6-speed
... they disagree on all points.
And usually have the following opinions:
- a Caterham (or the like) is better bang-for-buck
- must be a complex engine, or very underpowered for the size
- no way can you service a foreign vehicle at home, you must need to take it to special garages
- would rather wait 2 weeks for a part from Citroen, rather than 3 days FedEx for a part for the Corvette
- must handle like a barge
- and do 8 mpg
- and you'll lose loads of money as nobody wants a 2nd hand one
- all that horsepower will cost a lot to insure (my 400hp costs £330 per year, with 6 points and a claim last year!)
- all of them are Automatics. American cars don't come in manual.
... oh well, let them spend the same money on a Boxster lol

Hi Bob - well done. You do know that you can't get patches or help to give up this habit....
....but you can check out the level of your dependency courtesy of the NiCorvette quiz, developed by Dr. Karl Fagerstrom,
Work out your answers then go to
www.nicorette.com/Quit_Place_Dependency.aspx
fill in the boxes and find out just how serious your addiction has become.

Hello - my name is Vetteheadracer - and I'm a vette hardtop
....this sounds like the start of a Vette Anonymous meeting......
BTW I was on the A42 this morning following a 55 reg BMW M5 and he wasn't very happy after I showed him how fast a C5 Z06 in stock trim is......

Actually it's not Bob - it's JM but bob was more in keeping with the "CA" meeting !
I've had the Z06 since October - and had intended to keep it for a month, have some fun in it, then sell it for something else - that hasn't happened !
I drive it pretty much every day - and everytime i can guarantee someone will stop and want to talk to me about or simply give you a big grin.
I get a similar deal sometimes in the 930 Porsche - but the vette makes people smile - this big stupid beautiful yellow lump - must be the Corvette badge
Superb choice of car. I've had the Vette bug since 1993. I'm currently trying to break my addiction by selling my C3 and buying a Lambo - which is a car I've loved even longer. I didn't think I'd ever sell my Vette, and when I finally decided for certain that I'd like a change, I had a very short list of cars I'd consider selling it for. Having made the decision to shoot for a Lambo, I got the chance to drive a friends '04 C5 Z06 LeMans - WOW. I have to admit, it was the best drive I've ever had : fantastic performance, unburstable mechanics, really nothing I could say against it. There is very little on the roads that will be able to live with you in a Z06.
yep the Z06 performance is great and actually very usable, even the Traction control isn't too invasive, it gives a little rope to play with
I tend to drive with the traction control off most of the time (though i did almost find out the hardway that it isn't very good on ice - and promptly switch the TC back on)
The only issue is that i got insurance on a limited mileage policy and I think I've reached the mileage within the first 3 months !

Which Lambo are you after?
Hi Nigel,
ideally a Countach, or possibly a Diablo. I won't complain at either. The Countach was always the poster on my wall though. Seen the pics of Jans Diablo - stunning. All power to her for getting that - soooo jealous. Great colour too. Not in quite the same price range though - probably between £50K and £60K as I can't get the wife to sell the house for one
