All very nice...and heavy..

And do you all really need it when the stock block is quite good ??.

I think it's pointless unless you want a truck engine and they're 10 a penny, oops cent. LSx blocks don't fail unless you put a rod out the side and an iron block couldn't cope with that either. It's backwards development, soon somebody will invent an iron mouse motor with rat internals lol.

I know The video is quite interesting except it gets hard to hear when they talk about the c5r block. They also talk about head lifting but that's a detonation issue and the 2 extra head bolts they add are pretty weedy. The block does have extra material for bigger cams and solid lifters so if sticking to atmo power it's an option but I prefer what Darton offer albeit not up to 500 ci. It's also cheap so that will generate sales. No where did they mention it's weight. Anybody know?

The iron blocks are only something like 30kgs heavier, so the weight penalty really isn that bad.

LSx blocks arent renowned for their strenght though, and Ive seen quite a few photos of liners that have split etc, and not from rod failure.
Apparently detonation in some instances has caused it....

That said, Im using a totally standard LS6 block, and so far so good, and plenty are using the LS2 block with good effect.

You'll already know that the stock liners are very dense, thin and brittle. This is why detonation cracks them so easily. I've seen a few blocks scrapped this way but I haven't seen them fail for other reasons apart from a rod leaving in a hurry etc.

Good job aftermarket rods are cheap....It would be silly to build an engine without uprating them.

When you say rod failure...are we talking rods themselves or bolts ??

I havent actually heard of too may rod failures on an LSx.

I did some development work for you know who and the customer had developed low compressiuon on one cylinder (like under 1 bar) which I suspected was detonation related, ie they cracked a piston! The car still got hammered for a feature and the rod came out the side at warp factor 9 but the piston would have failed first. It was in tiny pieces, cam was in 3 pieces and I think the crank was broken as well. Well, I did warn them

I think the rods are really good as is but arp's will certainly be better. Downside of the arp's is the 3 grams weight difference per bolt but nobody seems to bother about that. That's 12 grams per journal. Seems daft given that GM made the rods accurate to under a gram, total weight.

When I built my forged 5.7, I just threw forged rods and pistons into it.... It ran smooth enough.

Rod bolts certainly wouldnt concern me as far as balancing goes !!!

Now the bit I had to grind off one of my current pistons to make it clear the trigger wheel.....well, thats a different story. So far its fine though.

Check the TVR Major Mods section - not TOO sure why I put it there! 100lbs over LS7 block with iron.
