As I am not a ZR-1 expert, I will leave others better qualified than I to decide if this is an absolute bargain......

Been posted before but it looks a good deal to me. The mileage will put 99% off though. Strange nobody knows the car though.

Fran, You there

Anyone want to be benevolent and donate to the 'buy Fran a ZR1 for Christmas' fund.

Donations are tax deductible,, with every £1 in the £1 going into getting me 16 more valves...

Please excuse my ignorance as I'm a Corvette virgin !! Been keeping my eye on the ads for all sorts of vehicles (including Corvettes) for something different to buy. Quite like the price of some of the C5's that are turning up now, but what's a ZR-1 ?? Special edition?? Rare ?? States in the ad ''will beat almost anything on the road', that true ?? is there anything special about this car as in its been tuned beyond belief ??

Thanks for the info Cliff !! 6 speed manual I like !! Like the look of your car by the way, very cool Most impressed that you've taken on the work by yourself, must be very satisfying.

Looks like I've got some reading to do!!

Does the 1990 ZR-1 basically have the same engine thats in the 98/99 C5's ?? 5.7 litre 350 bhp motor ?? (unfortunatly autos I know !!)

Thanks for the comments Steve, much appreciated, you will read all about the LT5(ZR-1 engine)and its british influence in the articles but here is a photo of an LT5 to give you an idea of what the Lotus designed 4 cam motor looks like, the others will fill you in about what goes into a C5.

Alright mate. Almost popped in yesterday as I had to go to Bracknel to pick up a tool. Only reason we didn;t was I wanted to get back to finish the car. Just put the front left hand side back together with the coil over and poly bushes. Just about to do the right. Then all I have to do is move the front sway bars mounts and fit my new sway bar.

Yes indeed, as my video shows 10.5 seconds, I'm sure I could perhaps get a bit more... Have you ever heard 5.7l (or more!!) at over 7000rpm??

Quite fun :-)

Oh, another thing: around 55mph in 1st gear is also good fun, or 80mph in 2nd, or 100+ in 3rd?

One moral the ZR1 owners apply - but I think applies to all Corvettes: drive it like you stole it!!

No. The only common thing between the ZR-1 motor and this (or indeed the non ZR-1 motors from the same time) is the 5.7l displacement.

GM co-developed the ZR1 with Lotus, and through OHC design - 32 valves thus - managed to get 375hp and then 405hp out of the 5.7l. With less mechanical complexity and weight, they managed 300hp in the LT1 (pushrod, 16v), and around 330-340hp in the LS1 Corvette C5 engine. The price and performance of the ZR1 engine didn't cut ... and in fact, GM went on to match the ZR1's 32valve 5.7l performance with the 405hp C5 Z06... and in fact, the new Corvette C6's 400hp (6.0L) is pretty good... never mind 500hp+ out of the 7.0l C6 Z06.

One thing to add about the ZR1, which is not only is it a fairly quick car: it also holds (held maybe) 7 FIA endurance records... how's about 24hours, in a *STOCK* ZR1 (catalysts removed for heat purposes I think, plus roll-bar the only changes) at an AVERAGE speed of 175mph [this includes stopping, refueling and changing drivers!!!].

Oh, and the test cycle for the ZR1's LT5 engine included (IIRC) 200h - around 8 days - of the following cycle: 5 minutes at max torque (4000rpm) or so, then 5 mins at max horsepower (7000rpm) or so... on and off for 200h.
