Hi

Has anyone found a good front number plate solution - I front looks are so spoilt by removing the plate cover and having a big number plate in place

(yes - i know the legal requirements)

That could be my plate. V6TTE. I have left the corvette name plate in place and fixed two brackets to the screws that hold it in place. These were bought from Halfords and required a little 'application' to get the required shape. A quick trip to a localish plate makers for some show plates (the front made to a particular size which is allowable for import C5's) and bobs your uncle. Front and rear plates are kept in place with doubled sided adhesive pads for a clean look and then a strategically placed screw cap held in place with blue tac to produce an E from the 6.
Hope this helps. If you are near Surrey, we can meet and I can show you exactly what I am trying to explain here.

Hey - have you got a pic of it ?

Ideally i'd like to keep the front cover in place - and just locate a small number plate somewhere else - alternatively maybe I'll just risk the £30 fine and just forget to put the number plate back on

You won't get stopped for ages unless unlucky. Cameras have no powers to stop and bib have more important things to do. Make a sticky plate as small as you like.

BM, I'm in Notts, were you up here recently?

Front plate.....er, you will have to remind me......nope never seen one on my C5 Z06 hehe

Nigel Perring has a small one (front plate) and his is mounted on a bracket offset to the passenger side of the nose of the car. It might be worth contacting him to see where he got it from.

Mine is the same, but just stuck on with double sided tape. (And on the driver's side, i.e. left hand side!) Looks great IMO. Ian Goss had it made up.

Have a flick through this month's evo! The only online pic I can think of is here: www.i2idonington.fotopic.net/p36470345.html

Are you a Caterham boy then?

I thought my C5 looked sh*te with a 'standard' plate so got an infill panel off fleabay and had it colour matched to the car then got my local vinyl / sign shop in Sheffield to knock up a small sticky vinyl plate. Works fine, no rozzer probs, got stopped in Chesterfield recently and I feared it was because of the plate but no the guy just wanted to ask some questions about the Vette cos he wanted one too.

Stick-on plates aren't legal as they have to be vertical.

I bought a small "show" plate from www.autoreg.net.

I went to B&Q and bought some brass right-angle brackets (don't rust or corrode), hammered them flat and forged them into a stepped shape. I bolted them to the bottom screws of the front Corvette cover so they protruded in an L shape through the lower gap. I then went to a model shop and bought some very thin and small clear nylon screw and bolts and attached the plate.

The result is very pleasing I thought:

While at B&Q, I bought some clear stick on plastic dots to put on the brackets and the rear of the plate so it didn't chafe anywhere. I am a true perfectionist.
