If you're buying or selling a car privately there's the problem of whether it's insured during a test drive for third party risks (legal requirement) and accidental damage (peace of mind).

I was just checking out what's available and these people quote £10.50 for a day's insurance on an everyday car rising to £21.50 on a Corvette. https://www.dayinsure.com You just type the registration number of the car and their quote comes back instantly.

If you're selling this is better than putting the potential buyer on your policy as a named driver for the day because if he/she does prang your car it won't affect your No Claims.

They won't insure a car worth over £40,000 so don't go thinking you can have a nice day out in a new Z06 for £21!

What the hell??

Are you sure this is genuine/ legal??

If it is - you sir, are an absolute legend!!! Although I note it does exclude high insurance group cars for under 25s, for someone like me (21) who occaisionally needs to use a car with more seats from the rest of the familys fleet, this is absolutely perfect! - I dont use the other cars more than a couple of days a year and to put me on the insurance would be hundreds - I have previously only had the use of a couple of company insured cars as a result.

Yes, it is genuine; we sometimes suggest dayinsure.com to customers who borrow loan cars from us.

It takes about 5 minutes to get cover and you can insure for (I think) up to a month.

They are part of Norwich Union insurance.

Thankyou for the confirmation, from the looks of things - I can get insured on mums Audi A4 Cabrio, but not Dads TVR Cerbera... which ironically is the cheapest of *all* our cars, including mine - to get insured, and to get insured on track for me to drive!

Thanks to the original poster, very helpful. thumbup

Must admit im sceptical as to what they believe "Emergency use by an additional driver" is... I somehow think they would try and wriggle out of it if I was to get cover purely to have an extra driver for the summer hols, though this is in the interests of a safe journey I guess.
