Hey all,

Just a quick question: does the C5 radio have RDS / station recognition?

If not, any 'fix' you can do to get it sorted?

Is RDS the traffic reports eg that break in on your radio automatically - no the radio is American and does not recognise this. Station recognition -if this is diplaying the name of the station, then no again. You can of course fit another radio but I guess if it is not a Bose then there will be rewiring to do but no doubt there are some on th e list who are more expert on this are than moi

The vette radio is er....how can I put this....shite? It doesn't even allow you to find 909 on the AM band as it goes up in steps of 10!

Take the head unit out of the dash and throw it in the bin then buy a decent UK spec Double Din unit with all of the standard UK radio type options......

Is it as easy as that? I thought there was some issue with each speaker having it's own built-in amp. Hope I'm wrong though. If so, I'm off to get an i-Pod compatible DD unit this weekend.

Euro market C5s do work on British/European frequencies but they don't have RDS. I don't know if there's a software or hardware switch hidden on the unit that allows you to swap between the two as the head unit looks similar - may be something that can be checked out on one of the American forums such as corvetteforum.com

For all you technophobes.
The european cars have a different frequency synthesiser (a chip)and this jumps in multiples of 50mghz, whilst the American specs are in jumps of 200mhz, so in theory, this frequency synthesisier rom chip should be both attainable, and replaceable.
If one can obtain the euro chip, then it could be used to re-program others.
Anybody got one???

C5 were never supplied in euro spec with RDS you can get all the UK stations it is a euro unit for the UK but not RDS! the strange thing is the Blazer Camaro & Cadillac all supplied at the same time in the UK by GM all,had RDS radio & the state of the art corvette never did! Bit like in 2000 Steering wheel controls became standard on the Camaro & blazer but not on the vette until 2007!!!!!
On all euro spec C6 models RDS is now supplied.

My C5 has the english frequency steps so tuning a station is not a problem. Never seen any RDS stuff so I guess it isnt available. Biggest problem is finding a station playing anything worth listening to ! I stick with CDs - sound is not the best Ive ever heard but is adequate. Best bet is open the window and rag it through a tunnel ! Ahhh thats better!

Its just not worth contemplating a change, particularly if you have the sat. nav as on the C6, the same issues apply here also.
Put a cd in, and forget about it.
