After he'd done the service & MoT on my C5 Ian Goss mentioned that he'd changed the clutch fluid in my car as it looked black. I was a bit nonplussed at first but having driven it for a few days I must say that I am pleasantly surprised at the improved clutch feel its given. I've never owned a car this long (coming up on 5 years), and the clutch was cable operated on the oldest car I ever owned, so I've never needed to worry about it before. Well worth doing in my opinion.

This is a common problem on Monaros and HSVs. (same engine etc as the vette) Check the forum, there's several threads on this subject. The general thought seems to be change the fluid regularly. If its gone all black and skanky, change it right away. I change the monaro clutch fluid every six months, but then I do quite a few miles in it. Use Motul RBF600 or the like, its seems very good. Think its a heat related issue.

So why would it not be in the service schedule then I wonder? Same position as Tristram, over 5yrs ownership, never considered it.

I always thought clutch fluid and brake fluid were the same stuff doing a similar job so would automatically change them both at the same time.

GM Sevice Schedule is 100,000 miles or 5 Years so Ian is bang on time with doing it.
As always you change your Oil & fluids as often as you want it will not hurt But 5 years is Max.

Er, I got him to change mine at 2,400 miles and the fluid was already black...

On the Z06 it is a common preventative measure. I wouldn't want to blow my valvetrain due to a sticking clutch.
