Well I said I didn't want red but liked it in the flesh so I pick up my new toy tomorrow evening.

It is a 2000 C5 coupe, auto, 25k miles, full service history, C5 FST private plate and I didn't find a thing wrong with it. 4 new tyres that are non run flats. £15 750. I am real happy with it, all paid for and waiting collection.

MCE were best for me on insurance and it is surprisngly cheaper than I expected. I'm only 26 with 9 years no claims. I have also put my mother and father on as named drivers. £590 with a limited mileage of 3000. I expected worse!

Can't wait for tomorrow! Missed not having my TVR but gonna be much happier with the new one I reckon!

Congrats Ian, you nailed your price too, sounds like you got a great deal, right time of
year to buy I guess. yes

Watch the back end on these cool days, even after a having a TVR, you'll find it likes
to snap away.

Have fun.

Did you try Heggarty for your insurance? I am only saying that because I pay less than that for myself and son with an agreed valuation of 40k.

Good luck with the C5 BTW adn have fun!

Thanks everyone just got back from my 4 hour round trip. First roads I went on were pitch black narrow B roads!

I certainly love the car although I have a tendancy from the first drive to drift over to the right. I kept hearing the bumps of cats eyes! My god it is wide. I have about an inch clearance getting in the garage!

Behaved perfectly well but I need to get used to that gear drop, it is somewhat aggressive. I have found my first problem though I think. Fuel gauge. I said would I need to get fuel and he said no it has 3/4 of a tank. It seemed to drop to half pretty quick (30 miles maybe of B roads and motorway). Then when it reached half it dropped straight to nothing and said low fuel. I pulled into the services of the M1 and parked up. I switched it off and then back on and the fuel went back to where it left off about half a tank. So I joined the motorway again and it never dropped completely again. A further 60 miles or so home and it is now at about a 1/4 (half tank gone in 90 miles or very cautious driving)? I haven't gunnned it at all and seemed to be idling 90% of the way home more or less. Smallish fuel tank? Or something wrong? Not that it bothers me any but will look into. The fuel gauge never worked on the TVR and it was something I got used to!

Ahhh. A bit of searching never hurt nobody. The fuel gauge dropping to zero has now been explained. Not a problem. The 180 miles to a full tank of fuel is a bit though or am I just assuming the fuel economy is better than it is on a big ol' lazy V8. It would still be worth that cost I had a Chrysler Crossfire up my arse and that is the only time I put my foot down. I was quite pinned to the seat but wasn't expecting the aggressive drop. I would have packed some spare boxers should I have known!

Never tried them darn it. I was too keen. I tried about 5 and was happy with all of them to be honest!

I am sure we will cross paths Fletch. I will get the camera out when I get a bit of sun. After creeping into the garage forwards I am a bit nervous of getting the bugger out again. Shall get better with time!

Sounds as though you've found the aggressive kickdown from 4th to 2nd which makes the C5 more exciting than you had in mind! And particularly exciting on a wet road...

I recommend a manual downshift before hitting the throttle in order to keep things pointing in the right direction. If you rev match the downchange using the throttle (as you would in a manual) the downchanges can be super-smooth ready for acceleration on command!

PS This is one area where the new 6-speed paddle shift auto is much better than our old 4-speeders. You'll learn to drive around it though.

Good news well done, we need more C5's up in t'Yorkshire. Be careful with that kickdown though, managed to get mine sideways last night on the Chesterfield bypass without trying whilst changing tunes on my ipod eek

Surely a hoon with Fletch360 is now on? thumbup

Yeah thats the down change I must have experienced!

A Yorkshire hoon is a must at some point. I do need time to get used to it though! And to start getting better fuel economy than my fathers old 7 litre Sedan Deville! I'll need another loan for fuel if the readings are correct!

Easy, put [pic] www.corvetteclub.org.uk/files/attachments/backsmaller.jpg [/pic] but without the spaces at both ends of the URL and you'll get this:

Now all you have to do is build a bigger garage so it'll fit !

I certainly could do with a large garage. But I can just fit in with about an inch divided both ends to spare. Then I can just get out if I point the nose to the right. I have adapted the garage with soft cushions to take the door when I'm trying to get out!
