The question's probably been asked before but the search engine's a bit lacking at the moment.

Is there a known problem / fix for "shakey" headlights on the C5?

I've noticed the nearside headlight can pick up quite a lot of road vibration and transfer it to the beam. Not noticed it quite as bad with the offside headlight.
Is this a common problem?
and if so, is there a known fix?
chewing gum and cardboard maybe?

Were you by any chance coming off junction 40 of the M1 yesterday at about half five?

I am constantly stashing money away at the moment for a C5, should have the funds for Feb sort of time. I was in my van at the said time and whoever was the owner of the C5 was approaching the lights with me, I went through ahem a little late and the C5 owner proved how quickly they can stop. I then spotted in my mirror it was a C5 and wished I had have stopped too! My first sighting of one on the road!

Heh, yeah. That was me byebye
There most nights at that time.

I thought about going as well but I would have been seriously late on the red.
Besides, the next set round would have been red anyway.

Yes I remember your original thread and that you were probably the most local C5 owner! The chances of seeing another black one around the area were quite slim! But I guess somebody coud have been travelling through. So if you see a nutter in a Johnstones/Leyland van waving at you there is a reason. He is an envious sod!

I work in Wakefield but live in Birstall so I come past that way too and go down the mad mile. So no more lights for me when I went through I finish at 4.00 though but had to put in a bit of overtime that day.

In Feb I will have 15k which puts me in a position to start looking. But I want a HUD so '99 and later, as well as a few factory probs sorted. I still haven't seen many in my price frame but yours at the time gave me hope. As it is probably the best value one I have seen, age mileage wise. I also want a darker colour ideally. The navy blue one or black.

Hee hee, correct that. Just started the ball rolling on a loan for the rest. I'm so patient!

Will have 15k in the next few days/weeks at the latest. Starting another thread!

I had a "play" the weekend.

The headlights don't "feel" loose at all if you give them a tug while stationary, but on the way into work this morning they still appear to be a little bouncy when travelling.

Still only really noticing it from the nearside. confused

Anyone got any theories?

Out driving in the Vette this evening (my lights don't wobble but they're pretty feeble anyway) I was thinking about your problem.

Years ago it used to be possible for the filament inside a headlamp bulb to move in its mountings sufficiently to cause some jitter in the headlamp beam. It would all depend how well the filament was mounted into the bulb. I wonder if this is what you've got in one bulb as you say it's nearside only? The check would be to swap your bulbs left to right and see if it makes any difference. Worth a try.

I very rarely use the pop up lights as I don’t like the look or the bounciness at high speed it gets better or you just are concentrating so much you don’t notice, I just drive round with the lights down and the fog lights on all the time at night
