As some of you guys know, I have a Euro spec C5. It has the normal UK style rear plate. In the US, it has the smaller plate with the backing up lights either side. I dont like the look of the present setup, and would like to go back to the original, with a smaller UK (motorcycle) style plate. Anyone done this, are there any issues, and where's best to get the bits? Cheers for any assistance!

If you remove your rear number plate and then the black plastic surround behind it you will find that the back of your car already has the cut-outs which fit US style back-up lights. You can get stock back-up lamps from Ecklers for $85

www.ecklers.com/find.asp?PageNumbe

or fancy ones from Mid america for $140

I've used both companies and they're used to shipping to UK. Expect your final cost to be roughly the same in £ as the listing in $. Keith Beschi at Eurovettes can source parts reliably if you prefer UK supply. So can Bauer Millett - at a price!

I can't help thinking the back of a C5 would look "cluttered" with all the US lamps and the dreaded Euro fogs as well. A matter of personal taste of course.

This is what I referred to when I fitted the smaller type plates to my Camaro, but this didn't originally have room for full size UK plates.

from the DVLA websie:

"Display of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles
(which have a restricted space for a standard sized number plate)
Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:

The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval

AND

The vehicle's construction/design cannot accommodate standard size number plates
Specifications for smaller sized plates (for certain imported vehicles)
Character Height 64mm
Character Width 44mm
Character Stroke 10mm
Space between characters 10mm "

Strictly speaking, being a Euro spec car it does not fall within the exemption but provided you carry a copy of S.14A of the VER Act round, you will know far more than the average police officer. I got away with it on my Euro spec Camaro.
