So, before I bought my Z06 I made sure that my rifles fit in the boot, which I also checked with other, lesser cars just in case - the AM V8 Vantage was a particularly tight squeeze. Indeed, my deposit was made with the proviso that the purchase would only proceed if the rifles fit in the back... and when I took the old VY demo car for a test drive, it had my big gun box and two rifles in there, along with a lot of my kit.

But now I have learnt that the Z06 is really just a fast estate car. On Sunday evening, I brought my snowboard out of the house, just to check. It's a 165cm board and fit neatly in, on a diagonal - no longer will it have to encroach on the passenger's space for Alpine trips.

Even better, I then got out the better of my road bikes. Better and larger, because this one has aero bars. I popped the front wheel off, lifted up the bike and "hey, presto!" in slid the bike with plenty of space to spare. No need for a roof rack or bike rack - luggage and bike will be able to travel in luxury and security.

Welcome to the world of the Z06 estate!

Sounds like you've got a full set of gear for hunting the abominable snowman!

You could get a four wheel drive conversion done on the Vette too. That's what they did to James Bond's Aston for Die Another Day - although it meant replacing the engine with a Mustang lump. I'm sure you'll find a buyer for that old LS7 on here.

If I find a Scottish buyer for the Tuscan, that may be sensible!

I found that a 6' stepladder will fit into a C5 very well if you don't mind folding the pasenger seat forward, and I've done the front wheel off trick to get my bike in the boot too. I suppose you have to be able to get a labrador in the back to call it a proper estate car though !

I may have had a few dogs in the car but they usually get to ride up front, oo-er missus

Why would you want to put the bikes in the car?

Especially when they're muddy!

BTW - the Bond Aston (and I think the Jag too) used Ford Explorer chassis with the Mustang motor - it wasn't very elegant apparently but did the job just fine!

Never had a problem getting any of my firearms in my C3, even without those new fangled rear openings!

Can't see the image; what is it?

I'm a roadbiker not a mountainbiker BTW.

Well, even roadbikes get dirty if you use them all year round! Mine certainly does.

You haven't said what the image is, that I can't see.

My roadbikes, used all year round, never seem to have the sort of dirt on them that would rub off in the boot. But if they did, I'd just clean the mat!

Your Mum did say that if you kept doing that, you would go blind!

Separately, the work PC often puts a little white box with a red cross where there should be a picture. So I still don't know what the picture was.

It's a pic of some bikes on a rack on top of a C4.

See you at Bisley on Friday!

Would far rather have bikes in the boot than sacrifice all that speed!

Sorry, now you've said bikes, of course the handy thing has been that with the rack and both bikes, both my other half and I can go wherever and get all our gear in the car too.

It seems to stay on happily at speed units of up to 100, I can happily drive round at 70 for the times bikes are on the back.
