I think you are having us on and this is your latest attempt in ornamental ironwork which will be mounted on your front gates!

Yep Man, that was the near side drive shaft, Dad pulled out of the petrol station...with ehm....enthusiasm....and we recon that the wheel spun on a manhole cover then hooked up on the concrete and did this, proof if needed that Pirreli P zero's are the stickiest things known to man!!!

Crazy when you think those shafts are nearly 4 inches accross, not circumference!!! eek

The real problems havent been exposed yet, the whole nearside wheel has been pulled in so far that it is solid against the inside wheel arch, THe Smart Strut mounting bracket is bent ant the whole trailing arm may be f***ked not to mention the gouges out of the inside of the wheel.

I will let yuo know tomorrow.

BTW these were big block drive shafts!

Nice one! Classic case of old car, high torque engine, modern tyres! Hope you manage to get it sorted without too much trouble.

PS Ever wondered why wire wheels went out of fashion?

Bloody hell Graeme, sorry to see this!
It's not an "I told you so" but a reminder if ever there was one...
With great power comes great responsibility! hehe
I hope you're able to get it sorted and that the damage is limited where the wheel got wound in!!!

Chris... you're gonna need to keep a closer eye on the old man's behaviour and stop him from getting too excited in the future!!!

I do hope there's not too much other damage (that's a truely beautiful car you have). I'd definately get that mounted and proudly display it in the lounge

Oh'oh, looks like I'm going to have to be careful. Just put 285/40/18 Toyo's on 9" rims on back of my '68 BB. I would have expected (worse case scenario) to maybe burn a clutch, break the gearbox or diff once I had put my Brodix heads etc etc on, but this is a new worry.

That picture reminds me of Plasticine. How about we start a new phrase to describe inadequate items:
"xxx is about as much use as a plasticine propshaft" !

Wow Indian Larry, now there was a man!
All stripped out and the only other damage appears to be some scoring to the inside of the alloy wheel and a bent Smart Strut bracket. I'm now looking across the pond to some of these heavy walled suckers that they use on the drag strips!

No weakening that I know of, but the engine produces 430hp and 425 ft/lbs torque.

Have a look inside the bugger when you get it off, a pal of mine in the US says that they can slowly but surely rust from the inside, and over many years the walls get so thin that their structural integrity is compromised. With all that power, its just got to be a wind up? !!!!!! HeHe - hope you get it fixed ok.
