Its now official, Jeremy Clarkson would like to own a corvette C6, but does not elarge upon the topic.
See last Sunday's "Sunday Times"
Many years ago he enthused about a Renault GTA A610 Alpine turbo, and a total of 28 +/- were sold in the UK over the 3 year period (not basic GTA), AND I HAD ONE!!!
Actually, they ware superb, just could be badly put together, with a top speed of 170 and 0-60 of 4.7 secs, and all from a 3 litre engine. You could argue that they were the French corvette's.

I noticed that and thought it was funny (he rates in the top 12 cars he would like to own) as he has always derided Vettes before.

Can't believe he would rather have the base car rather than the Z06 though...

It just shows that he is just an entertainer! (one can either agree or disagree), but none of them are with any engineering knowledge, just juveniles with paid for toys, and we, the viewers are the ones that eventually foot the bill.
Having sold my C5 Z06 (on ebay at £27500!!!), I would have loved to replace with a C6 Z06, but would miss the targa top, and dident really like the shift.
Since I am growing old disgracefully, I am getting a C6 with 6 speed paddle shift to satisfy both the removable top, and advancing age!, and am shipping in an 02 C5 Z06 with 3,300 miles to be a flash git again.Collectively, they approximate the UK price for the C6 Z06.
I have no intention to being the richest man in the cemetary!!!, my kids will have to work for a living, I did.

Yes, you could. Unsuccessfully. More like the French Lotus Esprit I would have said. Mid-engined wasn't it? Or actually, wasn't it technically rear-engined?

I think it is quite clear why he prefers the base C6 over the Z06 - it's not that far down on power and obviously delivers a touch better ride and has the targa. Plus it's significantly cheaper. It is also feesible that the options of the autos might be a driver.

The Z06 is a great car, but it isn't the only answer to the question 'what's the best car to get'

Fine performance car in its day though I never bought one. I felt the turbo came on boost with too much of a bang and the interior was very Renault 25 (that's a bit unkind). Hence kept going with the Esprit. Together with TVR 350i wedge they were the quickest cars around if you didn't want a F......... or P.......

But then I got bitten by the Corvette bug on first sight of a C5 in USA in 1998!
