Has anybody has one of these spare, it's for a '91 (but I think all the 84-96 amps should be the same)?

Otherwise, I'm looking to get a pair off ebay:

(although I only need 1 now, I'm sure a spare will come in handy...).

*IF* there's no spares, if anybody wants me to add to that order ($74 seems a good price), let me know - there's 4 available.

They won't ship out of the US (does annoy me little bit - it's not like the UK (yet!) is North Korea...) but anyway...

Ed,

Yes -I've contacted Steve to see about that. Eckler's are doing them at $129, so hopefully a saving can be made.

Did anybody want me to order one for them, while I'm at it, as well?

They did switch over, I think there were break points for the amps at 86-87 and also I believe they're very different for the facelifted dash cars, i.e. post 90 C4's.

There is some things written about these on the interweb, can't remmeber where though....

FYI; most of these amps can be easliy repaired by replacing all the electrolytic capacitors on the amplifier board (assuming the board is not burnt).

Mike - I need to do one of mine, but thus far have been too lazy to remove it - how many capacitors are on the board?

It's been awhile, but I believe there are 6. They are kinda small and it's tough to find replacements with the volt/mfd ratings (that are physically small enough).

When these capicators start to go bad, they cause the amplifier to start high-frequency oscillations. At this point they either don't put out any sound - or it's distorted sound.

This "high freq oscillatibg" generates a lot of heat and will eventually destroy the circuit board material. I imagine I repaired about 10 of them in the past couple years. And 2 of the 10 ... the circuit board was too "cooked" to attempt any repair.

Here is a drawing of a bench test setup I fashioned for the repairs:
