Having sold my yellow 02 Z06 (foolishly), I am now seeking information relating to direct purchase and shipping from the USA.
I would prefer to use a ro-ro ferry and bring in via Bristol.
My aim is to get a low mileage 04 model in a different colour and am aiming for a 25k total cost.
There was a member by the name of "Wayne" who imported his via this route and gave details of his SVA conversions (from Caerphily), so if you are watching give a fellow Cardiffian a bell on 02920798688.
Any help/info would be much appreciated.

That would be me then.

I used an agent in Baltimore to check out some Z06's for me and for a reasonable fee, he stuck it on the boat and arranged the marine insurance. All I had to do was send him the money and wait for the car and pray it was a good one. The guy in question has been responsible for arranging the import of Vetteheadracer's Z06 and Rumblebee, my Z06 and my mate's Z06 so at least you know you can trust him with your money. He'll also arrange for the shipping fees to be paid at Bristol by you on collection which makes it pretty painless. Both Z06's bound for Cardiff came in via Bristol and came ro-ro, mine with a slight bend in the rubber deflector and my mate's completely unharmed. I would certainly recommend doing it this way as all you have to do is locate a car and deal with the seller and then send this guy to fetch it. I can supply you with his details and number if you wish. PM me for more info.
Good luck with finding a Z06. In my recent experience, the prices stabilised in the US and even rose.

Your budget will need to include the purchase price, import duty at 10%, VAT at 17.5%, some ancillary docks clearance fees and the shipping was $820 in 2004 and the marine insurance $400. I paid $600 I think for the agent but my mate was charged $1300 because he had to go to New Jersey for his. The cost of the agent can be offset by a lower value bill of sale (allegedly)

Then you have the conversion ($300 for the rear lights to start with plus foglight etc), £150 SVA and registering and taxing it.

Here's the page again:

I don't recall seeing any yellow Z06 in Cardiff, how long did you have it for?

Has the C6 affected C5 prices much in the US?

I haven't really looked to be honest but obviously there is a big difference between a new C6 and a 2004 C5 so newer C5s may have been driven down. Americans don't have the comapny car depreciation freefall that we experience and their depreciation is far more gradual. They frequently become obsessive about cars like the Z06 which instantly assume classic status the second they go out of production - hell, I've seen 2002 Anniversary Camaro SS's selling for $35000 which is what I paid for my 02 Z06 in 2004.

I think there is a similar divergence of view on the C6 in the US. The fact the C5 Z06 is often videoed beating C6's has added to it's desirability and allure and it seems to be an aspirational model which has firmed up prices for good examples and obviously in the US, higher mileages are the norm. Effectively, people see the C5 Z06 as being faster than a C6 for a lot less money.

Thanks for the response, using a stateside agent has advantages, although I intended a flying visit to finalise purchase and shipping (Osama bin Laden allowing).
My final purchase price post shipping etc etc is a ball park figure, but $36k will get you a low mileage 04 model, so it is attainable at 25/26k gbp.
Perhaps you can e-mail me either your phone number or Baltimore agent (Its in Maryland is it not?), so a "bone dry state" purchase would involve me/him in some stateside driving.(My e-mail address is: owenemyr@aol.com)
My purchase decision is fluid timewise, and partly related to how well I get on with the 6 speed auto C6.
Perhaps concentrating on sourcing a car from the sunny states and avoiding the salt prone East coast is not necessary, since it is probable that low mileage cars have only been out on dry days!
Thanks for a resourceful and mosy useful SVA etc account.
Regards.

they seemed to at first... maybe 6 to 8 months into the 2005 production year. Then the depreciation of the C5 seemed to level off a bit.

Hey Tim - a very warm welcome to the Pistonheads Corvette Form - it's always great to have input from an overseas officianado.

For the benefit of you other guys, I've known Tim for a while and had dinner with him and his wife twice last weekend during Corvettes at Carlisle in the US. Tim was the inspiration behind my strobes and one of the reasons I went back to Carlisle this year

Richard, you give me too much credit. You were a car guy and Corvette enthusiast long before you ever met me.

I am actively looking for a low mileage Z06 from years 02/03/04 in the US, but get the impression that private owners expectations are somewhat unrealistic, or perhaps it is mine.

I'm in the process of shipping my C5 back to UK

I can offer plenty of advice. PM me.

I'd recommend Vegas for a start. Plenty of Vettes and the climate is kind on everything except paint and batteries!

Her Majesty is not too keen on that plan!

I'm renting a container for both the Vette and the Camaro. Pick up in Las Vegas on a flatbed, load in LA and unload at Thamesport. Drive on from there. $2500 plus marine insurance.

BTW, looks like a good deal on a low mileage. Check the battery. The AC Delco is useless. Also look for rear end leaks. Both common problems.

Byuing an 02 Z06 from an US marine Col with 3300 miles, and he has offered to trailer the car to Baltimore (my preferred exit).
Hows that for old fashioned values!, great, and all this for $30500.
He couldent quite manage a C130 transport although he is in the air-arm.

Used Wallenius Lines out of Baltimore to get my Z06 over in 2003, excellent service and cheap!

If you need details then let me know......
