Anyone seen the features in top gear mag? Great comparison between ZO6, Shelby Mustang and Viper. A great read, and of course, the Vette seems to come out best, after they fixed it ! Theres also a cracking article on buying a used C5. Very favourable comments and review about this stunningly beautiful car, and what a great buy it represents.
The Top Gear photo shoot was in our showroom with our now sold 1999 silver corvette c5. They did a great right up and showed off the great lines of the vette. I'm glad they followed through on giving it a good right up. The corvette C5 is in my eyes the best value high performance sports car on the market. The ladies who came in to write the editorial were also as beautiful as they were clued up about the questions they wanted to ask and the product they were writing about. They had really done there research. A very pleasureable day at work I wish they were all like that !!

I've just been out to find it as I am wanting a C5 in a few months. I think the Sep issue has just been released so the Aug has dissapeared in all the places I looked. I think it was the Aug with the Vettes in.
I've just found the same thing
Any chance one of you guys who did buy it could scan the pages in for us, please?
Yep, it was def the Aug issue I still have my copy if anyones interested.
Mr Atlantic Viper, James? I bought my C5 off you earlier this year, the red X reg one if you remember. I was the fat bloke with the blue Monaro. He He Bit of an impulse thing if you remember! When I read the article, I figured it was you !
Great car, few minor issues, all now sorted. Thanks for the great service etc. I'll tell you about it at the Barbecue !!

Saw that article, I remember that it was by Jamie Kitman who usually writes some very interesting articles for CAR. The 'vette did come out good didn't it.
Did anyone read the latest issue of Motorsport though?
Andrew Frankel (formerly of Autocar) slated the Z06 saying that it's just a great engine in an average chassis, and although there is alot of grip (which there is, my car was only beaten by a Caterham CSR in the lateral G stakes when EVO tested it, recording over 1g) the steering doesn't have much feel.
Well, it won the GT class in 4 out of the last 5 Le Mans, so yeah, it must be awful! I'm sure in the time he had with the car loaned by Dutch Corvette distributor he really took it to its absolute limits on the public roads he drove it on....and anyway, who is he to judge? I don't reember him being much of a race driver.
When I tested the stock C6 at Ascari circuit in Spain a year and a half ago I was driven around the circuit by Anthony Kumpen (F3 driver, and current C5R European GT team driver) completely sideways, drifting beautifully and throwing it around like a Caterham. I asked him what he really thought of it, and he reckoned that the only car that could compete with it for times around Ascari circuit was the 911 GT3. High praise indeed, and the Z06 is far quicker than the stock C6.
Frankel also said that Chevrolet should learn that big numbers do not a great car make.
I guess that's true if you are a biased Ferrari lover like that man is. He always used to write glowing reports of any new car made by them when he wrote for Autocar. A sad fact of large magazines is that they must praise every new Ferrari else they'll never be allowed to test their cars again, which costs the magazine sales. This is thanks to the millions of brainwashed muppets who think that Prancing Donkies are the greatest thing since sliced bread, a myth perpetuated by continual drivel written in magazines like Autocar by fools with rose tinted specs like Frankel.
Sorry, had to get that off my chest. Time for a lunchtime pint and a fag methinks.

IIRC you've been thinking about a Vette for some while so it's time to stop worrying and get the cheque book out! There are no serious issues with C5 or C6 which is an updated and improved version of fundamentally the same car. Any minor glitches are well documented here on PH and on the club website www.corvetteclub.org.uk/.
Hey 5 USA,
You're quite right about my interested in C5 vettes, and Pistonheads has been a fantastic source of information. I would still like to read the Top Gear article - I really don't need any further reassurance regarding the cars (I know in any form they're fantastic), I would just enjoy having the article!
Unfortunately I'm finding myself consistently delayed in buying the car which, had I had it my way, I would have done a year ago. But... having got engaged (the ring hurts!) and bought another property abroad, I am finding myself finally running out of obstacles to get myself a C5...
... though my preferred colour remains the silver/pewter which many of people here seem to hate?? Best colour, IMHO!
Now then, Mr Somerled, 5USA is right. Stop looking for excuses, and start looking for a Car !!!!! I have had my C5 for a year now, and I still find myself looking at it in the garage, and having to give in and go for a spin. It is without doubt, one of the most beautiful cars ever. I still havent "bonded" with the looks of the C6, and although my quintessential Vette is the C3, the C5 beats it on so many things that it just had to be done. The car is basically bullet-proof, well engineered, and very reliable. When they do have issues, they are normally pretty easy to fix, and not that expensive.
I bought mine from Atlantic Sportscars, having had a good look round. Hes not the cheapest in the world, but James is very helpful, and his stock is high quality and very nicely presented. I can recommend. Anyway, enough waffle, go buy ! You wont regret it.
BTW, all CORVETTES are red, arent they??
Hehehe

I know I know... I've been delaying buying a Vette for some time now. I was a TVR nut until last year so I will be part of the 'convert crowd'.
I likewise haven't quite bonded with the C6. It's been the C5 that caught my eye and turned me to American cars in general... though that has ended up being toward Cherokees and Wranglers rather than Vettes and Vipers...
I actually just bought a (second) property in Greece today after several months of jumping through legal hurdles, but that's thankfully over as it had been preventing me buying a 'decent' car.
The only obstacle remaining would be the fiance who is the sensible one in our relationship. But I think the engagement ring should 'buy' her silence on the matter...
I'll be a Vette owner soon enough... then I can show you guys and gals how to really drive them!

If you believe that then you are indeed a fool sir!
Marriage is 3 rings.
Engagement Ring

SuffeRing.......
If the bint don't like the 'vette then it is time to get a new bint

As the others have said - time to step up.
As one of many ex TVR owners here, just shout if you want to know something.
I'd have another TVR tomorrow if I could...but I'd rather have a Vette if I could only have one car.
