What good things do you hear said about your Vette? I've had more with the C5 than any other car I've owned. Recent ones include a "Nice car, mate!" last weekend and a few weeks ago one that still makes me smile,

"Hey dude, nice car!" :D

Tried that on mine but the flag started to wear away.

The woman in the car park at last week's Pistonheads meet insisted that the Z06's were Ferraris even though we kep telling her they were Corvettes. On a garage forecourt, some guy came over to say how fabulous the car looked. Nearly always got a true appreciation for the car rather than envy.

I recently stopped at the cashpoint in my local town which is opposite a pub. When I returned to the car 2 young lads had come out of the pub to have a look and were full of praise for the car. They waited until I left as they wanted to hear it running. I've had a fair few shouts from pedestrians - usually younger lads - of stuff like "nice car mate". And I recently had a small, thin Ozzy Osbourne lookalike asking all about it when I was waiting outside a shop for my wife. I think if you drive a Vette you have to expect this sort of thing - and it's certainly no hardship !

Unusual one today - M25 in moving traffic, had a conversation with a guy in a RHD Audi alongside LHD me that started "so you didn't fancy a Viper then mate" and continued for about a mile at 45mph till he said "I just love American cars, and the usual comment about "nice car" as I gently drifted off ahead.

3rd "nice car mate" today between Basingstoke and Sandwich. I typically get about 1-3 a day from "younger folk". What do you guys say when this happens to you? An embarrassed "thanks" seems a bit weak.

All makes a nice change from, 'What's it do then, eh?' or ' Bet that drinks a bit !'
Once had a semi heated discussion with a guy who didn't get my point that you wouldn't ask a Ferrari, Porsche or other Euro exotic what their cars mpg is, and American V8's are probably more economical

The moment that's made me smile the most, since it kinda sums up the whole ownership experience for me, was as I was burbling along Brighton seafront in my C3 in walking-pace traffic. As I was sitting stationary with the driver's window down next to the pavement a father walked past holding his young son's hand and said "Now that's a real car, son".

My car gets far more respect and interest when I'm just taking it easy around town. Revving or driving enthusiastically when in towns just marks one out as a w4nker, regardless of what car one is driving. I save the enthusiastic driving for the open road where only the sheep can hear my screams!

Well if anyone was to come round to mine this week they would find the Corvette side of my garage empty as the car is in the sprayshop. You must draw you own conclusions as to why ................

Nah...he's having the missing stars and stripes added before the NEC in a couple of weeks as he doesn't want to spend 3 days explaining why there aren't 50 stars and 13 stripes.

either that or he's having the flag pole inserted

Best reaction ive had to the car so far was when i took it to TRAX this year, im quite sure it was the only vette there, i had crowds round it most of the day

Did look abit out of place parked up between the punto and vectra owners club though!

For the C5 - Well the young kids always shout great car mister, or words to that effect. The oldies in the garage forcourt always query the mpg and normally step back amazed when I say 27-28.

But the best I had was at Maison Blanche campsite many years ago in the yellow 73. I was edging past the pedestrians towards the exit when this gorgeous French woman turned around, looked, smiled and said quelle belle voiture. Stupidly I said "as beautiful as you mademoiselle", clearly what I should have said is "do you fancy scratching your arse on my bonnet badge you sexy French tart". Now I know, I am probably too old.

Plan is that next year the CCCUK will return to Trax with a Corvette only session on the track if there is enough interest.

I have always had a good responce in over 20 years in Vettes, have even been asked to go to a night club when in the west end in my 80, I was old enough to be there dad and told them so but they had a good laugth with me, and when washing my 04 outside my house a school boy about 14 asked if it was a Z06, told him it was not but praised him for knowing what a Z06 was.
P.S. Richard I hope at last you are having it painted Torch Red the real deal
