I saw a posting on The Corvette Forum where some guy from the US was telling others to stop moaning and to accept that the price in the US now is where it should have been many years ago. I tend to agree with him.

Difficult one to call - as to what the 'true' price of petrol should be. Analyst reports of what fuel price should be to cater for global warming indicate that the price is so far off the scale that we may as well carry on as we are. Can't help but think the carbon economy is just a stop gap until another technology takes over. Guess the question is when.

Dont overlook the fact that in Europe at least, the UK is the most heavily taxed country on petrol, which has got nothing whatsoever to do with the true price, just more of Labour' hidden taxes. They rape our pension funds and then screw us when we spend our 25% tax free element of the fund on a nice car!

It’s a shame, oil companies are jumping on the band wagon of this, I paid £101 for super unleaded as the so called ran out of normal, 3p per litre just up the road this morning.
Its about time everyone stood up and said enough, I for one support anything that will reduce the cost at the pumps. If we were in France they would have kicked off long before this.

We need a contest here - who's been fleeced the hardest for a tank of Vette fuel?

I'll start the ball rolling with £62.90 in my C5! (That's about $110 in USA)

Try walking or pblic transport and the fact remains you'd gladly pay $10 a litre if it came down to that or nothing. It's still cheaper than beer and people still buy that.

Comparing petrol with beer is imaterial, whats more important is the tax and duty we pay for every litre of fuel, its a total p155 take of the British public.

Last Saturday I put £60 gas in the tank, drove to 100 miles to Santa Pod, blasted down the strip 6 times, drove home again with just enough to get me back and I recon that was good value
This morning it cost me £37 to take the train 20 miles from Gatwick to London Victoria. That's a con
It's all relative, we have an expensive hobby and if your worried about an extra £5 per tank then maybe you should think about buying a more practical car....

What's the Chancellor's cut on beer then, given it's a glass of water with hops and alcohol in it? I'm not supporting the price of petrol but it is becoming a luxury good for those who don't use it out of necessity or reasonable need. My point is merely that if beer was increased to £5 a pint, people would still buy it even though they don't have to but because they choose to spend their money that way because they want to. A sharp-eyed Chancellor will rake his money in from anything he knows people will pay for. Look at the panic buyers - immediately giving retailers the opportunity to increase the pump price and make a profit (for once) and buying at the highest possible price (if the fuel protest aims to reduce it). The whole world is mad.

Now 22% import duty on pickups when cars are only 10%, that's disgusting too!

Petrol tax is too high. Gordon Brown has just been on saying the price is high because of the oil companies and not the tax !!!!!!!! HELLO petrol is high 'cos its nearly 80% tax you idiot. He is already making more money out of us then he forecast because the pump price has gone up making that 80% tax worth a lot more than before. H ecan afford to cut it.

States in the US have cut tax 100% on fuel while the oil price is so much. France has done a similar thing. No doubt our gov will do the usuall and ignore the majority.

Its all crazy to me,but im not into substantiating one thing because of something else its a bit like saying i dont mind this bully punching me cos he doesnt hit me as hard as another one could, sorry ,but i dont think we should be hit at all and i think that its all wrong that seeing we are part of Europe(in a geographical and trading sense)we dont get given a fair chance right from the off,how can we ever hope to compete, its a totaly unfair advatage IMO.

It starts with the trucking Co's that have to compete with thier European counterparts right through to our heavily taxed wages that our spent across counters for the goods that are being shipped to us ,then with what we have left over lets pay more at the pumps and on our recreational goods that are also brought in by truck, they want us to be part off europe but they dont want to treat us the same,i dont get it.

The Dam travel card is now £6.00 as well, it’s a shame all this blockade seems to be a bit of a damp squid as well, how depressing just as I though the English public had found a bit of back bone, we could defo learn something from the French.
