I'm in the US. An ex-pat petrolhead I taught my daughter to drive in a stripped out NA Miata and when she got a local job she ran around in a `99 Boxster. She has the bug. Unfortunately she is now on the other side of the country and is looking for a two seat convertible that is practical enough for every day usage but her squeeze doesn't drive `stick'. Although she is quite capable of routine maintenance (oil & filter changes/air filter/brakes etc.), she will be probably dependent upon local dealers and garages for any repairs. We still have the Boxster and it's in good mechanical health but IMO it has the potential to throw up bills if anything major hiccups. So...
Obviously she has to teach him how to drive, but aside from the obvious, what about a C5 auto?

Great choice. The LS engines are pretty bulletproof.

Auto is probably a good choice as the Wheeler Dealer Z06 episode shows the transaxle is hard to change a clutch on.

Few issues though - https://www.corvetteforum.com/how-tos/a/c5-corvett...

I had a C5 coupe, auto as a daily for over 4 years before moving into a C5 Z06.
Only money I paid out for was tyres and oil changes, never had a problem with it.
