Hi all,
Can someone with a service manual check a part number for me :)
The part is:
Steering column - Housing and components - Position sensor Position sensor - W/o telescoping column 2001 - 2004
Its for a 2001 - and its the steering sensor in the steering wheel. I have a DIC code that says to replace the sensor and is PCM Code is 28TCS - C1288 and C1287...

I think the part number is 2605 9047 ...
Also know of anyone to change the part other than BM down near Reading? Thanks all

Hi Mark
Bl**dy C5 manual, this DIC is not under the steering system, it is under the anti lock braking system! Took me ages to track it down! Point here is that have you checked connections etc, this may be the fault, not the sensor itself. The part number is correct - not listed in the C5 manual - but for future reference if you go to www.gmpartsdirect.com you will find the parts and numbers there; unfortunately though they only ship to USA (+ Canada?)
AND have you reset the DIC and seen it come back - these DICs can come and go without a real fault.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for that :-)
So the car went to BM last month for them to check it over. They ran a test on the sensor and saw it was not transmitting at all so they said to replace it. If they actually checked all the connections or not I am unsure but they seemed to be pretty adamant to change it.
Seems to be a bitch to change as the whole column and airbag come out so its an intensive change. If only this happened under warranty! I'll reset the DIC again, but it appears straight away as soon as i turn the wheel 1/4 turn.
On GmPartsDirect - I checked the number but it gave a useful description as "Sensor" - But its only $40 so at least I know its not a huge amount of dough! Since they only do US shipping, I'll hopefully get them to ship it to a mate in my company and he can bung it in the internal mail.
Cheers for the confirmation.... Now only to find someone to fit it

Good luck with the "job"! I didn't realise that it was siscovered by BM, irrespective of the variety of criticisms, no doubt they went through the GM diagnostic routine. You can email GMdirect so I guess you can mail them the part no and ask them to confirm it is the steering wheel position sensor.
