Just had a call from my man fixing my car and it is all good news :)

1. The clutch is now re-routed and therefore no more clutch fade due to heat.

2. Steering is now fitted with a steel collar so no more squishy steering due to heat.

3. Exhaust is all welded up with no gaps and no cats.

4. He also found another 40 BHP :)

He also found out why a lot of the heat was getting into the engine bay, big gap between the righthand turbo and the housing due to lack of 3 bolts :yikes:
Also fixed the lefthand turbo as the actuator arm was not operating the waste gate as it was stuck shut :yikes: :yikes:
The electrics STILL don't work as the Motec guy that installed the ECU has right royally F@cked the CAN to the point where it is going to be almost impossible to get the CAN working and the Motec ECU working.

So, I might decide to remove the Aircon, Radio, Doors etc. over the winter as none of them work!

Removing the doors is a bit extreme but will save weight and make entry/exit a lot easier

looking forward to seeing your car run fast VHR and be reliable with it

Have been considering Carbon Fibre doors as a winter project with windup windows as the electric ones don't work!

I'm glad your engine's running good now, we need to put up a good show for Elvington...

I'd be interested to know what the CF doors will cost.

Cliffy and I spoke to a guy called Dave Edmonds above doing some a while back and I think it was going to be about £1,000 for the pair, but that was they were the dog's bollox as they weighted about 4lbs each.

Great news about your car Nige - we missed you at Hockey!

As for leccy windows and radio -

Windows - why not hard wire these as per most cars in recent years.

I'm sure something similar could be done with the AC - so you'd end up with manual air con instead of auto.

Stereo - easy - fit an aftermarket unit (or can you not hear one anyway over the engine noise)

Just some ideas in case you didn't want to go for the full on stripped out look. Guess that still leaves you with a pretty dead dash though, although if you've got the spondooleys Stack could help you out there...

Ive heard of guys in the US, adding aftermarket ecus to control fuelling and ignition, whilst retaining the factory ecu, to control some of the cars functions.

Could that not be done ?, just switching off any error codes it may throw as its not actually controlling basic functions anymore.

Nige dont be surprised if you find more problems,i come across them all the time trying to straighten out my "That will do" motor but ime nearly there now, below is an exert from a mail that i recieved as my heads are being assembled.

"QUOTE" We tested your springs today using our special tools. Anyhow with the
installed height at 1.180 which is what it's supposed to be, you have coil
bind with the inner springs that you sent me at .400lift. So that will cause
problems using stock cams as the inner springs J*** gave you are junk. That
means that the inner springs are not good. And with the performance cams you
had they would cause major problems."QUOTE"

My Z06 runs a CAN (Car Area Network) whereby all of the components 'talk' to each other via the ECU. The LDCM (Left Door Control Module), RDCM (Right), BCM (Body Control Module), etc, etc.
The muppet (Motec installer) raped the ECU of nearly all the wires including removing the pins from the 2 large connectors to the ECU. As a result the original ECU even if it is plugged in doesn't work as it has no power. If it is reconnected with power it still doesn't work but it stops the Motec working
Basically the guy should have piggy backed the Motec on to the GM ECU so that the engine management was done by the Motec and the rest of the car was run by the original ECU.
Seriously considering removing the stuff on the car that no longer works just to make it lighter.

Drove the car last night after the mods and it feels great the Turbo's spool up much quicker and the power comes on even earlier I couldn't really boot it as

a. it was wet
b. it was dark
c. I had Welly and the two Guinea Pigs onboard..........

Will have to try booting it next weekend at Elvington

Thanks Fran, I am gonna change the oil on Saturday and then set off for Elvington (possibly via CCCUK committee meeting, but no one's told me if it is this weekend or next!)
Planning on giving a good account of myself this year and just enjoying the event, which will hopefully make up for last year.
