I think you should have a look at both types before you buy. On your other thread, take up the offers of trying them.
The C5 could be better for the budget, is a simpler car with less electronic gizmos than in the C6 to let you down.
My C6 would flatten the battery quicker if not used, even a new battery. Too much going on I reckon.
Even the doors are solenoid operated and I was always thinking what could possibly go wrong. I sold it before it got too old.
I still hanker after the C5 but maybe if I took my own advice and compared both types, the C5 might be too agricultural over the more advanced C6.

But if you just want to own a Corvette, any Corvette, the C5 is a good starter and cheaper. At least get one with the head up display.

I think older Corvettes will hold their value for some time.....before they go up!
The new C8 for example seems to have quite a few issues with their electronics and even the damn wheels are causing problems.
Im not having a dig at Corvettes in particular it's just GM seem to have no quality control at all.
Having said that the other manufacturers dont seem to have anything to brag about either.
In my humble opinion if you want to keep a car long term buy a well looked after older model.

I was quite active on Corvette Forum in the States when I lived there with my C6. It was the general consensus that trying to avoid the first year of a new model was a good way to minimise your chances of a problem car. My budget at the time was at the C5 Z06 03/04 or a leggier C6 Z51 04/05 MY. Against what I said above I plumped for the C6 and have no regrets but now I know more about it my car has had all of the issues that the first MY is known to have had.
I think there is an element of 'pre-release' about the first years of the new models with GM.

Sorry I had deleted the OP as I realised I had another thread running so didn't need two!
I have thought about it and the C5 appeals more and spending less also appeals so ideally I would get a C5.
As per my other thread though there aren't any cars out there that meet my criteria and also seem good value ... not sure if i am expecting to get too m uch for too little or if sellers are asking for too much for cars that won't sell ...
I do see there is a silver 1999 C5 on AT that has slowly dropped from 20k to 16.2k in recent weeks ...

Thanks,,
I bought it in USA while on a Texas work assignment, after 2 years, I containered it to UK.
kept it for 18 months, then sold it.

To be honest, when in Houston, I was in two minds to buy the F250 King Ranch, or the Corvette, but I opted for the Corvette.
Bit of a mistake actually.
In Houston, nobody bothers you with a Corvette, so many of them.
After 12 months in UK I knew I made the wrong choice, and I should have gone for the F260 KR
In UK, it always had to be parked where you could keep an eye on it, for example, going to restaurants etc. so wasn't as much fun in UK as in Houston.
If I had the time again, even though the Corvette is nice, I would have gone for the F250 KR.
