His defence for the speeding should be that he was doing an indicated 80mph - remember most speedos indicate +10% - making his real speed 73mph - far more acceptable, and well within the +10% you are allowed for speedo inaccuracy.

Should still NEVER tell the police your speed when you were speeding. Easy to say now of course but after thats just happened who knows what any of us would say.

Anybody got any idea of the consequences of admitting to doing 80mph at the time of the accident?

What would be an appropriate thing to say? "I've no idea"? "70mph, officer"? "I'm saying nothing until I've taken legal advice"?

Is that the stretch of road near Doncaster thats always on the TV with the traffic cops having a hard line on speeders?is it deffinately a 70 limit?,i thought A roads with turnings could only go up to 60,i might be wrong!
Hate to say it but it wouldnt surprise me if its worth a ban especially in South Yorks,again i could be wrong but your not just talking speeding they could hit him with dangerous or reckless driving.

The needle flickers rather a lot and the speedo invariably reads high in these old Corvettes in any event; it's a well known fact in the classic car world. In terms of real speed I can't have been doing more than 65 or maybe 70 at the most. I drive very carefully you see because of all the hours I spend polishing the car and don't like to get my pride and joy plastered with dead flies. I'm so upset the car has been damaged in this accident which was entirely the fault of the other driver. Years of restoration work ruined and although my insurance will cover the market value of the car nothing can compensate for the emotional loss I have suffered."

Count your self lucky to walk away and start covering your tracks, unless you were cautioned then it doesn’t count and just say you were in shock and deny saying it.

I’m only guessing but reading the accident scene,
The blue escort is further down the road, and had been broad sided, it was the front car or was going faster and cut in front of the vett, never ever admit liability and do what you can to protect you licence. Good luck getting it back on the road
