So, in the boring moments of lockdown, I decided to take the opportunity to get some shots of these magnificent machines. If I could only have one, the choice may suprise everyone. (The clue is which forum it’s posted !).
Really, that does surprise me,I'm your poor relation, have a Gallardo, F430 and a well used GTB but am currently vetteless, had a few mostly 60's and 70's, looking for a C6 Z06 prefer something modified, There was one on P.H classified a few months back with a mega engine ,said it cost £14k to build ,that was in yellow but i missed it,not sure if it was sold or the ad was withdrawn. You have a great choice of cars ,feel sorry for you when you have to make a decision which one to take out, Hope you don't mind me asking but was that Peter Saywells C7,So, in the boring moments of lockdown, I decided to take the opportunity to get some shots of these magnificent machines. No, the C7 is not the ex Peter Saywell car. Peter’s car was a Z06, but an automatic, and was sold last year to someone on here. Having driven both manual and auto, I personally prefer the manual gearbox in these cars. (Although the DSG in the C8 will no doubt be a different proposition).
My C7 Z06 is the special edition C7.R, UK spec supplied new to me. There are only 2 C7.R U.K. spec cars, the other being an automatic.
I like your choice of cars, and let’s be honest they are all fantastic aren’t they. Your desire for a C6 Z06 will be a great choice. I sold mine (in the photo) 2 years ago, having owned from new for 12 years, it was only a lack of garage space that prevented me from keeping it. The 7 litre LS7 is one of the best engines ever made, mine only had air filter and exhaust modifications, but frankly the performance in the lower gears is more traction limited rather than power.
Good luck in your search, if you find the right car you will not be disappointed.
Nice spot. I’ve not seen the sister car, but your photo must of been pre collection as the black wing mirrors haven’t been fitted. (How sad I noticed that!).
As far as track days are concerned with a C7 Z06, forget it, as they will not pass any drive by noise restrictions, even in standard form.
I was hoping to get one flying lap at Goodwood on a noisy day (105db), but they had me in on the first lap. But, I can tell you, on the standard Michelin Pilot sport cups, it was magnificent (for 3/4 of a lap!).

You're right, the car in I spotted in Ian Allan's yard in Feb 2016 still has the much nicer/smaller US mirrors on it. I dislike the large/ugly mirrors on my UK spec C7. Can always of course put US spec mirrors back on it with the repeater(s) either on the mirror body, or in the vents on the front wings/fenders as ShipMyCar do it? C8 obviously a fantastic car, but still love the looks of the C7:

my uk spec had the big black mirrors, changed to us spec small ones , they are not mot compliant as have no side repeater but i know a nice mot man who forgets that, only problem is they drop down in reverse but dont return, have to do it manually, those C7-R , have a special door runner strip with it on,wish i had the paddle shift,7 speed manual like stirring a bucket of custard, had paddle shift on my f360 and even have it in my abarth 595, i raced the C5r in 2005 with hewland gearbox ,much easier now with paddles especially when i test LMP2 prototypes

Blows my mind how much grip these cars have (photo is upside down)

That would be me who has Peter's old car, see attached. Bought last August, really can't wait to go out for some summer runs once that is 100% allowed - rules still slightly unclear on that right now!Titan said:

Now this is very disappointing news. I was hoping that Silverstone might be a loud enough limit to get away with it?? You really think the Z06 won't get on any track days at all?? I think Titan was very unlucky at Goodwood, they normally give you a warning and a 2nd chance ,but there there again i haven't heard how loud his R is. Silverstone should be fine ,there a bit more tolerant there being bit more out in the country and it's Silverstone. Hopefully we may get some trackdays in later in the summer but not holding my breath,we may all have to wait till next year meanwhile we can still enjoy them on the road .Apart from my daily all my cars are still on sorn and most m.o.t's have run out, rightly or wrongly didn't think it appropiate to drive them with what's going on and thought the police would think i'm joy riding instead of shopplng, Don't think it's a problem in London but in the smaler l towns it could be different, I get a fare bit of resentment at the best times ,Now lockdown been eased looks like i'm going to be busy getting the cars ready,
Ok so maybe all is not totally lost for tracking my car? A few track days have opened up.....I’m planning on going brands hatch this coming Tuesday for an evening session. But I’m guessing I should take my Evo as it’s sounding like there’s no way the corvette would pass the drive by?

Didn't realise there were track days that were open ,must look into it.Managed somehow to get this virus so been indoors for over 6 weeks so not sure what's going on. If Brands isn't to far from you could you take both cars,at least you will know for next time. I only managed to get to Peter Saywells track days a couple of times last year,I think i saw your car parked in the pits , maybe the August one where we had that freak storm with gale force winds ,it was more like November than August .Don't know whether you owned it then or not. I remember seeing it advertised by the same garage that sold his Aventador but not sure if it was before or after Goodwood . I can confirm that there are absolutely no issues whatsoever with a C7Z @ Silverstone. Other than the slower moving objects that you must navigate around.AkinaSpeedStar said:

That's good to know, assuming you're speaking from experience? Have you tried other tracks? Any chance you know what DB level it was making on driveby? I'm loathed to waste hundreds of ££ on a track day to be kicked off first lap, but not sure how else to find out if it'll pass the drivebys or not? UTH said:

Yes am speaking from experience, we were there last summer in 1 x C7Z and 2 x C6Z. Silverstone, for me, is just a perfect circuit for those cars.I cannot comment on the measured dB on drive-by as we didn’t come into any problems, also cannot comment on other circuits with the C7Z. Would add though that the C7Z was by no means the loudest car there on that day, so should be some room spare vs. 105 dB limit.
One word of caution - I have only used Goldtrack or RMA in recent years. They run 105 dB events at Silverstone. Some of Silverstone’s own days are advertised as 102 dB, so I’d perhaps stick to Goldtrack or RMA to be on safe side.
Hopefully see you there later this summer!

Cool thanks for the advice, very good inside knowledge, as you're right, the ones I've seen have been 102db days. I'm hoping to get the sound meter out this weekend and do some driveby tests to get at least some sort of idea, but at a guess anything like Brands Hatch at 92db would be a definite no.
