C7 Grand Sport / Z06 availability
Discussion
Hi all.
Long time lurker in this section (but been on P/heads 14 years!), but I am keen to learn about C7 Grand Sport or Z06 availability and the kinds of numbers of cars around in the UK.
I am talking specifically about either UK/EU spec cars.
I'm provisionally looking at the cars that are on sale atm on here and on mobile.de.
There's nothing available that exactly fits my ideal spec, so if anyone knows of anything else coming up for sale, then perhaps you could PM me. I am prepared to wait for my desired spec.
I'm in a dilemma with my current car - an immaculate Abarth 124 Spider as I love it, but I've always had an itch I need to scratch to own a 'Vette.
I'm aware that they often take a while to sell - some ads have been up weeks/months, so that's a slight concern, but I know it's a small, specialised market.
I've had an online chat with a really helpful chap called Jim on the Corvette forum website who's answered a few technical questions.
Cheers, Jon

Hi Jon, I have a 124 Abarth and spent time on a driving trip down to Italy along with our 595 competzione. The 124 is a wonderful special car. However, I also have a C7 Z06 and this thing is in a different league, as good in my opinion as other exotics costing twice the price. My advice, get one if you can afford it, you will absolutely not be disappointed. Talk to the guys at Ian Allen, they are nice people. One last thing, get a manual, it suits the car.(in my opinion).
Brian, that's a good point...!
I realise that the pool of Grand Sports / Z06 cars is small and I will have to compromise somewhere, so I will consider anything, but my ideal spec is blue or red or black with (a must) competition seats (pref Alcantara with same steering wheel) and heritage stripe colours. I'll consider auto or manual.
I was deliberately not being picky in my post as I realise that I won't be inundated with PM's.
Thanks

Have you driven one?
Not a C7. I've driven a C5 and a C6 and have owned a few similar types of cars and have wanted one for a while.
I have no issues with LHD and like something a bit different and unconventional.
As I mentioned, I know there's a small market for them.
Thanks for your replies.
Chris, I saw the pic of your car on the other thread - looks great, but not 'my colours'. Thanks, though.
I am still searching for a Grandsport or Z06.
I've seen one in Germany and have been doing some homework on importing procedure and particularly on headlights/fog lights compatibility.
If anyone has any advice on importing from EU, then please let me know.

the things to watch out for on imported c7,s is the sat nav infotainment system will cost you £900 to be converted,if its got the US mirrors like mine (though mine is uk car) they wont have side repeaters in which is an mot failure in the uk, c7,s suffer from disc judder replaced under warranty in US but strangely UK importer wont, recalls in UK are on airbag and notchy gear lever on the 7 speed manual,i would go for paddle shift if i bought another c7,the 7 speed manual gears are very close together, you can go from 1st to 7th easily and its notchy when cold, the downshift blip is too late, makes the car run on,belts squeak, mine sounds like theres a bird trapped under the bonnet,it chirps, not sure about ZO6 as that has a supercharger, ive got a billy bullet exhaust which sounds great, other than that a great car for a reasonable price,i had a ferrari 360F1 before and the build is better, miss the paddle shift though
I have done 9000 miles in my Z06 manual and I know it comes down to personal preference but I love the seven speed and I hav nt had the problem of shifting in to the wrong gear . first and second need a slight pull to the left ,fifth and sixth need a slight push to the right Seventh has a built in "resistance" and needs a stronger push to the right .
I love the availability of choosing the "exhaust noise" .I keep it in stealth to keep the neighbours happy but once round the corner slip it into track mode.
I can t resist giving the throttle a quick blip going under bridges. My partner ,who is nt a petrol head is constantly reminding me "to act my age".
Whether you go for the Grand Sport or the Z06 you will love it

Chris a couple of comments.. It will only cost you 900 if you WANT to convert and the car has the sat nav fitted, when I bought my C7 Z06 new in the USA I deliberately didn't spec the satnav as I knew I would be bringing it back to the UK eventually. The satnav is not as good as google/ apple maps anyway so save some money. Not having side repeaters in the mirrors is not a MoT fail as they can be in other places and you won't get the car through a IVA without repeaters anyway so finding one UK, EU or other import without them is highly unlikely. Mine has a very small LED inside the O of Z06 on the front wing vent. You wouldn't know its there if you weren't looking, can you see it in the picture? I also have no problems with my manual gear changes at all, love the rev match function and it sounds superb throughout, I do have a MGW shifter fitted though but no problems prior to that too. Anyway OP good luck with your search... mine isn't for sale as I love it!! Edited by helipilot on Wednesday 28th November 22:30
helipilot, where did you get your mgw shifter from? i had a recall on mine at ian allen to cure stiffness but that doesnt cure the annoying shift to 7th when you want 5th,i guess i have been spoilt by ferrari and LMP prototypes with paddles, ken nisbett C7KEN fitted additional LED beetle bug repeaters in his wing vents,i think only the ZO6 has them in the wings as standard,i will just have to put euro mirrors back on for mot as i dont trust auto electricians to wire them in as cambus electrics you could end with no indicators or a fried bsi unit, had it on £500 corsa but theres plenty of ecu,s for them, not C7,s, just found out my discs are warped after only 15000m and EBC havnt made any replacements yet only pads, apparently its a common fault due to 2 piece rotors

why don’t you just order a new one to your spec? Just wonderingLong time lurker in this section (but been on P/heads 14 years!), but I am keen to learn about C7 Grand Sport or Z06 availability and the kinds of numbers of cars around in the UK.
