Thoughts on a C7 Corvette Z06...
Discussion
I posted the below in the Yank Motors forum - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... - but wanted to see if anybody here has experience of the widely publicised Z06 overheating issues?
For example, would this issue be any better in the UK with our grim (colder) weather?
Any opinions, pointers and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

"Well as the title says I'm considering importing a 2015/16 C7 Corvette Z06.
I know the exchange rate is awful and it won't have a warranty but I've got a real hankering for one.
So let's talk some figures...
Car: £49,500 ($65,000)
Duty: £3,869
VAT: £8,512
RORO Shipping: £1,200
UK Mods, IVA, MoT & Reg: £1,200.
Total: £64,281.
Unless I've missed something, let's say £65k landed and ready to drive?
That sounds too good to be true. £65k for a fairly new 650bhp weapon?
They seem to be prone to overheating so that's something I'll need to do some research on.
So, other than the above have I missed something, are there any known pitfalls other than the above of the Z06 and am I mad? "

Can't go wrong. Always nice to see a guy (or lady) with a Porker (or two?) get a "proper car." Only two questions I would ask myself 1) Is it too wide for narrow/potholed UK roads 2) Will it fit in the garage. If either of those is an issue, get a standard C7 with the Z51 option and stick a supercharger on it. Or buy one in the States with a supercharger already on it, including the 627bhp Callaway?

I have had my C7 Z06 (7 speed manual) since April and love it.
I have had no overheating issues ,but I don t do track days or drive it as hard as perhaps some owners do.
This is my forth Corvette ( C5, C6, C6 Z06 and C7 ) so I guess I am used to the LHD and the width.
I would nt hesitate to recommend the Z06 but if I have one criticism it would be that it has too much power.
If you floor the accelerator even in the dry the tyres lose traction (although I don t have the Z07 package with the "slicks").
Road and Track said in their test unless you are a racing driver never switch of the traction control ,"the car will kill you".
I have followed their advice.
I would buy another Z06 tomorrow but can t help thinking a Grand Sport makes more sense. You have all of the looks of the Z06 with almost the same usable power.

I really don't understand this comment, it seems to get spewed out everytime
someone is on about buying Corvette, esp. a Z06.
Just usual Yanks are too big for UK roads bks again.
Only question I would be asking is what colour I wanted.
Audi R8 V10 - 1980mm wide.
Porsche 911 Turbo - 1880mm wide.
C7 Z06 - 1877mm wide.

Some great advice there from scs1. Some good info here too, including getting the NAV to work on a US spec car, and putting the required side repeaters in the front reflectors for the IVA.

When the C7 Z06 was launched in the US it was hailed as an amazing track car and was used as such by many motoring magazines on race tracks, sometimes in extremely hot conditions.
In such conditions there were some reported instances that the car would sometimes reduce power, due to running high temperatures.
More instances were reported with the auto transmission.
On the road I have not seen any evidence of any overheating issues.
In the US, when the Nissan GTR was launched there was a massive amount of press saying that the ‘gearboxes were made of chocolate’. I had a GTR for 7 years and never had any issues. That’s public forums for you.
If you get a Z06 I don’t think you have to worry about any overheating, especially if you don’t intend to track the car for prolonged periods in hot conditions.
It’s not an overly wide, or large car. LHD is not really an issue.
What the C7 Z06 is, is an very fast, rewarding, fantastic sounding (even as standard) car that gets appreciated attention. (Go to Le Mans And see the massive Corvette fan base, a lot of which are brits). Also in the UK it’s a rare super car.
Another bonus is cheap servicing (in supercar terms) and reliability.
If you decide to go ahead you will absolutely not be disappointed.

This is what always gets me too! I always mention that the 911 Turbo is wider, and you don't hear Clarkeson et al moaning about that on UK roads.I really don't understand this comment, it seems to get spewed out everytime
