On the Euro models you could switch between MPH and KPH using the DIC. I'm pretty sure US models didn't have that feature. So I guess it depends on whether it was a US import to Japan (no chance) or, if there is such thing, an official Japan model (where there may be a chance).

Welcome to C5 ownership.

Sounds like you have the 300kph speedo for certain export markets. However, you should still be able to push the button to change between English/Metric which will switch your units from kph to mph.

The domestic US market cars will have a 200mph speedo that has this same functionality.

I imagine to change the scale on your units (300 back to 200) you will need a whole new instrument cluster, which is probably not as expensive as you might imagine, as there should be plenty of used spares from scrapped vehicles in the US. Be worth exploring if there are any pitfalls with this conversion first though.

As for insurance try some of the regulars (like Admiral, Aviva, etc) as well as the specialists.

Post over on CCCUK too, as you may get more responses.

If it can switch from Metric to English units, then probably not worth worrying about the 300-unit speedo - Eurospec C5s and C6s (and I guess C7s?) have the 300-unit speedo anyway. Having said that, I always rely on the HUD rather than the speedo...so maybe you have a point if this particular C5 doesn't have the HUD!

You said your car is a Japanese import.

Something to watch out for is that the central locking key fobs (and the tyre pressure monitor system) of European market Corvettes operate on a different radio frequency than US market Corvettes. The two are NOT compatible and you have to get exactly the right parts.

To complicate matters further, I think there were two different and incompatible systems used on European market cars before/after about 2000. I don't recall the exact changeover date.

I do not know which frequency was used for the Japanese market but you need to find out for certain what's the exact right thing for your car before trying to source any [expensive!] parts.
