Hi folks - I have a lovely TVR Tuscan which has just had a full engine rebuild with a 3 year warranty but I have a notion of trying some American muscle for a change...
My question is what model/ spec should I be looking at with my £25k budget - and might I be disappointed after the Tuscan?

Hi There I've never owned a TVR ..... however I don't think you'd be Dissapointed I'm on my 5th !
With your Budget me personally I'd go for the C6 .... There's one on Pistonheads Classifieds at Motorhub
It's in Red ... 6 speed Manual with 17,500 miles it's a 2010 or 2011 I believe it's a little above your Budget at 27k
You could if interested ring and say "Would you take 25 for it Cash" (it's coming up for a reduction as it's been at that price for some while)
You'd need to ensure it's been IVA'd and registered with a current UK Reg plate and MOT
But that's the Marque I'd go for I don't think you'd go back to your TVR's once you've owned one .... There are plenty to choose from Good Luck!

As I own both a 2005 MK 2 Tuscan S and a 2005 C6 targa auto, I ought to be able to answer your question. However I like both pretty much equally. The LHD of the corvette is the only real downside to the C6 and I personally would find a LHD manual to be even more of a downside than an auto.
I have only owned this corvette but on my sixth tvr. I would say corvette's are more realiable but that tvr's are appreciating in value slightly year on year. Maintenance costs would be higher for a tvr IMO.
Why not give a C6 a try. You could always go back to a tuscan if you wanted to.

A stock Vette is a great vehicle, but maybe somewhat less of an event than a TVR. A slightly modded one however will IMO easily match the TVR for excitement.My question is what model/ spec should I be looking at with my £25k budget - and might I be disappointed after the Tuscan?
As for which one, depends really what you are wanting.
A C5 Z06 if you can find one is probably the most sorted for your budget.
C6's have nicer interiors and a step up from a C5, but a similar sort of car overall, more evolution than revolution. Or even a regular C5. Go for a manual if you can.
Verts and coupes should handle and ride the same, so go on looks. Z06 is fixed roof though.
If you want more of raw thrill, try a C4. I think ZR-1's might still be in budget and certainly a good financial gamble. Or even a late LT4 example. They still perform pretty darn well, but will likely be a little more wild and ultimately less capable than the new models, but probably just as much fun.
After market exhaust is a must IMO and will really increase the fun factor. LS6 engine in the C5 Z06 is a screamer, but the LS1 and LS2's less so. A cam swap can really change their character. A quick shifter for the 6 speeder is a nice add on too.

However, i would not agree that all coupes/convertibles handle and ride the same.
The convertible is the least stiff structure, so will not feel as sharp to drive. Coupe is stiffer, even with the targa roof out, due to the structure under the halo panel - kind of like a roll over bar. There is also the Z51 suspension option, which i believe is available on coupe and convertible and this gives more performance oriented handling. Then the next step up in handling (i.e. stiffer suspension, amongst many other changes) is the Z06.
You don't say if there's a particular model that you might be interested in, but your budget may even allow you to get into a first year (2006) C6Z06, although maybe of higher mileage.

I've owned several Griffiths, T350, Tuscan 3S Convertible and tested a few C6 Corvettes including a very nice 2005 manual. Still yet to buy one, I will!

- Almost certainly more reliable
- Lower maintenance costs
- Safer
- More usable
- Better build quality
- Quieter cabin (no diff clonks etc)

- More sense of occasion than std C6
- Great cabin ambience as all TVRs

Well shock of shocks the C6 is only 34mm wider in Total than a Tuscan.
Thats 17mm each side, the width of your little finger.
The Z06 widebody is only 118mm wider in total, which is 59mm each side.
Not what I would call a big difference.
Everyone says its a wide car....... what about a Porsche 911 Turbo,
I've not heard people say that that is wide.
The Porsche Turbo is 36mm wider than a base C6 in Total and 48mm thinner
than a Z06 in Total.

Always wondered why people say they are wide.
I remember Clarkson on about the C6 Z06 against the Audi R10 V8 saying
the Vette was too wide compared to the Audi. The difference there was
12.5mm each side, which means very poor journalism firstly and very poor
research secondly.......
