Seems to be a lot of noise going around about the next Corvette being mid-engined.

Although if true it'll be undoubtedly an awesome car I'm not sure it'll be a 'vette

Thoughts?

Personally I think there will be 2. It's kind of been hinted at the last couple of years and would also fit in nicely with their rad program in the US (GT and the DP cars). I expect the usual layout Vette will continue with the traditional layout and price tag but a much more expensive super Vette with a mid engine layout - perhaps carrying the ZR1 badge.

Ill be amazed if they actually go the mid engine route on all cars - I really don't think that will go down well with their customer base in the us.

I met the guy in charge of the C6 Z06 last year.
Over a few beers - he did mention that a mid engined car is a possibility for C8.
To get the performance, handling etc - mid engined is the simplest way to do it.

And yes.. getting customer buy in is the biggest challenge.

This has come up a lot though, right? I mean, GM has done a few prototypes over the years but costs have always kept it the way it is. It's also more "practical" if that matters...

After reading the OP's original title - I think that a 'MIG' engined Vette is a very good idea - not too sure how the 'glass will cope with the additional heat though!

If the car performed, which I'm sure it will, I dont see it being a hard sell ?

And it should offer superb performance, especially on the dragstrip which lets face it, the Americans love even if the car was built to perform around the track as well.

Plus hopefully they'll build a superb manual transaxle for others to use too lol
