Anyone driven C6 Z06 & C6 Grand Sport?
Discussion
just wondering what your thoughts were?
I know its personal preference really, but I can see merits on both
I asked question on US site and world war 3 broke out, insults to each others mothers, and death threats and
the thread was taken down!! ha ha
obviously in the states you can go to dealer and test drive both.. one after another
I'm hoping in future, with some big saving, Ebay and body part Sales, with C7 landing, prices will move accordingly
and would love to move maybe to C6 from C5 when prices are within reach..
obvious things are you can have a GS convertible, whilst our weather isn't great, you can't beat having the roof down motoring as my current one is, and it also looks great too.. then of course the Z is a hooligan which I like the idea of!! 505 v's 430bhp is an obvious difference, but again how different, 430 is no slouch, and 505 through rear wheels I imagine, tail happy, wheel spin central etc... so on paper you can look at stats etc, which is fine, but wondering how it translates to weekend enjoyment driving, occasional madness of course thats we have V8's! don't think I would ever track my pride and joy! ... but you never know..
anyone owned or driven both be interesting to see what you guy's think.. Due to lack of choice we have over here really to look at..
thanks

Grand Sports over here are as rare as hens teeth and Z06's are not much better. Due to how few there are and while I'm sure the C7 will push C6's down I'm not convinced if there will be that much impact on these rarer models especially as UK spec ones can fetch a good price in Europe whilst still being a good buy for our Euro buyer. Time will tell. As for back to back driving, the only person I can think of that could answer that is Mitch.
That there is and I'm sure prices over there will fall when the C7 waiting list depletes. (At the moment you can join a queue or pay way over sticker price to jump it). However make sure you do the Maths, when I was looking a couple of years ago I was using VHR's postcode on US autotrader and by the time I landed the car on the road in the UK, the saving was so small it really wasn't worth the effort. Bring back the days of $2 to a £1 I say.

Which zip code Brett? 60046 was mine in Illy now it's 34667.BTW something that might be worth looking at there are a few dealers with 2013 C6 stock who are looking to offload at heavily discounted prices. One of the dealers in Sarasota brought a yellow C6 Z06 2013 to a car show we were at back in November and the price was something like $68,000!
Me personally I would go for a 2013 427 convertible as you get a C6 Z06 basically but convertible

Over the last couple of years I've spent a fair bit of time and miles in both (2011 Grand Sport Convertible & a Z06 Centennial edition.
They are both such different cars sometimes its hard to think they have so much in common, as for which one do I prefer, again there's no easy answer - the GS is easier to live with and the roof down, big V8 (with open valves naturally) is a wonderful experience and the performance is more than adequate. The Z06 (especially on ceramic discs and Sport Cups) was a more physical car to drive, more raw yet much, much more rewarding when it all comes together and apart from being caught a couple of times in the rain (those tyres do not like cold or standing water !) its probably the finest, most enjoyable drivers car I've ever used, in the real world its balance of grip, traction & power make it one of the fastest ways of getting from A-B.
With all that on board though we'd have the GS as its easier to live with on a daily basis as long as you never do silly things like driving through the Mersey tunnels with the roof off in first & second gear only :-)

I owned a c6 Z06 for five years and drove both the Z06 and Grand Sport extensively over three days at the Ron Fellows Driving school at Spring Mountain.I agree with Daveb' comments the GS is easy to live with and probably a bit easier to drive when you are going for it, but the Z06 feels noticeably faster and and requires a bit more effort and skill to get the best out of it.Both are great cars, but personally I would take the Z06 every time.
The 06 gearboxes are fine - just need a little more muscle to move it . I think it suits the character of the car.
If you are looking at an 06 Z06 - check it doesn't need the roof recall done. A small number had a duff batch of glue securing the roof.
You can check by registering on the GM website - Punch in a valid US zip code - and enter the VIN number. You will see any recall information needed about the car.
