Insurance time again - good news

I am actually in the country this year when the Vette insurance is up for renewal for a change, so have been able to make some calls - well a single internet enquiry actually.
My insurer, whom I have been with for many years sent my renewal through via email. It seemed a bit high at £590, and there were charges to issue policy documents etc which felt a bit rich, so I had a punt at an email I received from Aviva with a very low expectation given the specialist nature of the Vette. To my surprise, the cover I needed came in at £287 with protected NCB and business-1 for 10k miles. It was £246 to start with but I added some necessary features.
So I called Flu... whoops, erm, my current insurer to reject their renewal. Of course they went into customer retention mode, gave me a quote for £330 to continue with them, and stated that they would additionally match the price of Aviva. I chose not to take them up on their offer - I explained that if they had made that £330 offer on the written renewal, then of course I would have continued with them despite being able to save 40-50 quid elsewhere, but at twice the price - I felt they had tried to scam me for my loyalty.
My usual approach to insurance on other cars/house is to punt around at renewal time, and being in the UK this year for the Vette renewal, I am glad I did. Make sure you do too, especially if you have been with the soldering fluid company for any length of time. And don't forget to try some of the ones that you would not expect to be competitive in specialist cars.
Might see if I can get the Rav and the Cooper S with them too.

Is this for official euro spec cars , and not for us spec imported cars.??

I had tried them a couple of years ago when I insured the Rav and they were not competitive and would not touch the Vette.
Seems they have changed. I just punched the reg number in online and off we went.
Mine came up as an auto which I fixed over the phone. Talking to the guy, they do not like mods which might cause an issue for you.

I tried them today with my Challenger SRT8 and thy wouldn't touch it, imported vehicles they will not ensure unless I was an existing customer they may look at it but otherwise import = no, because the vettes can be uk supplied I suppose they will do them, but not sure if it was an imported vette if they would or not ? I suspect they would as the challenger isn't a UK option from manufacturer its not on the list, but I did squeeze another £100 out of flux and got it for £580 with business use, some others were £2k !
Dave, those are not mods, that is a completely different car to the one you bought! You really need to start driving it rather than laying under it you know

When it came up as an auto, I was dreading the result of changing it to a manual as most Vettes seem to be auto and a 6 speed manual could break the normality for an insurer. Net result? An extra 2 quid!!

It'd be interesting to see who gets the cheapest insurance.
I'm with Admiral on my UK supplied C6 auto coupe. Renewed earlier this month for £207 with European cover (same level as in UK - fully comp), protected NCD and commuting. Declared 10k miles a year which is more than I need.

My Aviva (multi-car) renewal last week was not as good Admiral, so went with them. But, as the Aviva guy I spoke to said, an Aviva policy is independently rated as a 5 star policy, Admiral is 3 star.

Hey guys fast forward a tad
So need insurance for my slightly modified 03 ZO6 ,worsed was £668 ,best was £400 , 1500 miles .And that was fiddling with my ncb mirror or something .
So called Aviva to get proof of ncb , think the very helpful young lad wanted to know what I was up to , well long story short and probably because I have a car with them already he got me comp cover no limited mileage , ALL mods included , multi car policy for £203 on the vette , yeah all a bit subjective and down to personal circumstances , old git, no points / accidents ,reasonable post code etc.
Hope to add a truck and the mrs car next year .

Great news! They seem to be very competitive, but as you said maybe for the no brainer postcodes and other circumstances.

Got some work to do in the car today. Went in for MOT yesterday, and there was an earth fault on the hooter and one headlight, which was odd as the lights were all working when I did a pre mot check and never a problem before, so must have developed on the way, or during the process to fix the horn.. Didn't know about that, never use it. Garage fixed it, did the MOT all fine, or so I thought.
I came out this morning to a flat battery... and a wet interior as I got distracted last night by a couple of bottles of red and forgot to put the roof on and put the windows up... Remembered when I heard the thunder this morning. Couldn't get the boot open or windows up with no electrics, and with my hangover raging decided to jump it off the Rav rather than wait for a charger to do the job as the interior got wetter all the time.
Got some juice in the battery and put the lid on. It seems that my interior lights are now on all the time... Grrr. I am pretty sure it will not be the rain, but the electrical work at the garage yesterday. Can't take it back today as I would not want to be driving after last night, so will see if there is anything obvious, or take it back Monday.

Eta: mini fuse 29 (10a) is my friend... Fuse now out, lights now off. I will take it back on Monday and let them sort it out. Where are the aspirins!
