Hi, this is my first post on the Corvette Forum.I own a 1994 C4 LT1 convertible 6 speed manual.

The original wheels on the car were not in great condition and tyres worn plus I didn't like the wheels appearance so I fitted some Jaguar XJR Asteroid 18 inch alloys with 255x35 profile tyres-these fit perfectly, look great and the car passed the MOT with them, however the car now rides far too low .My first thought is to fit 255X40 tyres to the Jag. alloys and my first question is will 40 or 45 profile tyres safely fit the arches and will they raise the ride height by about an inch ?

My second question is-I have heard that BMW alloys will fit and was thinking of fitting a set of 17 inch BMW alloys with 245x45 tyres at the front and 275x40 at the rear-is this do able?(P.S I know my ideas will sound totally inappropriate to purists but I need a cheap and safe wheel/tyre set up until I can afford a new set of 17 inch American Racing Torque Thrusts.)

Metric pitch on BMW is fractionally different to Vette - some have done it however 'offset' may be different. Bit small on width - even my 1 series has 225/45/17's. I am using 245/45/18 and 285/40/18's on my C3 - these are 27.2" and 27.5" diameter, probably an 1" or so greater than C4?

Thanks for the info about BMW alloys compatibility may now just wait until I can afford the torque thrusts regards misterdog

Just for info, the width on the LT1's is 8.5J front and 9.5J rear for base suspension models, Z51/whatever the performance option was meant you had 9.5's all the way round.

Diameter is 17" all round. You can fit larger diameters, of course best to preserve rolling radius by using lower profile tyres if going up on wheel diameter.

Base got 255 fronts and 285 rears, performance 275's all round. Basically the staggered width meant safer understeer was the order of the day, the equal front and rear improved cornering at the expense of making oversteer more likely.

Hope this helps!

Oh, offsets, think it's 58mm for these, but the rim size used on C4's is fairly specific to the Corvette, so use of other wheels may require spacers etc. - but that can come with its own issues.

Thanks for the info-really still want to fit 17 inch Torque Thrusts but new set that fits LT1 is £1500 including bolts and transport -if could find good second hand set with tyres for about £750 I would go for them
